Season Two 2v2: Thread Closed

Postby Ace Rimmer » Tue Jan 06, 2009 9:56 pm

Ok, so I finally figured out a way to get my spreadsheet to tell me who's played with whom and how many times. The count is based on game, not team. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to figure out a way to use this data to arrange possible groupings for more active teams for Season Two. So, here is the data if some smarter person can figure it out, or if you just want to know how many times you've played with/against another person.

Google Doc.

Hey, i have an idea for a ladder player ranking, but cant test it, because i dont want to enter 50+ games in a execl table. So can you be so kind to put such a table online too with google?

The idea goes like this.
Every player starts with rank 0
When a team plays the individual scores are sumed to have a team rank.
After the game the team rank will be modified by this:

If higher ranked team wins:
Winner: +game score difference/team rank difference
Loser: -game score difference/team rank difference

If lower ranked team wins:
Winner: + ( (game score difference+teamscore difference)/2)
Loser: - the same

After that the gain or lose in team rank is halfed and added to the individuel rank of the team players

all numbers are rounded, no fractions
if team rank difference is 0, it will be set to 1
difference means the absolute value, never a negative value.

Think its easy understandable after some examples and also incooperates the game score.
It also gives the lower ranked players a nice leap if they win (or if a higher ranked wins with a lower on his side).
Well actually i dont like the "if lower ranked team wins" formula, but i cant think of a better one.

-----

or wait how is that:
for everyone:
Winner: + |game score diff + team score diff| / |game score diff - teamscore diff |
Loser: - |game score diff + team score diff| / |game score diff -teamscore diff|

| | <- absolute value
nah, thats crappy also :P

but you got the idea :) , so can i have a game results table please

What kind of info do you want on the table? Also, the way mine is set up is each row is a line for a player, so four rows per game, working down.

Note: V1C1OUS is listed as B and A depending on the game. Can't remember exactly where it changes.

Edit: Forgot, E261, Edwards score is listed as 0.001 instead of 0. Zero throws things off too much so I made it something else. :P

Edit2: I didn't read you first post or else I would have included the score diff for each game (I keep lots of stats). :P Adding that now.

Double post, but only to say that I agree, those are rubbish. I will say that you might be on to something though.

Nice, that will help a lot!

We also need to figure out everyone's time zones. With an even distribution of players from similar time zones, it should encourage more matches. We've all been sitting in the ladder server with 5 people from our own team and not enough people from any other team to play. Of course it doesn't have to be perfect, but evening it up a bit should help us get more opportunities for matches. (It's mainly just splitting up players from NA and EU)

Also, maybe we should just keep it to 2 teams? I could see a lot more diverse matches that way, and more opportunities. (we've all had the '2c Need 1a or 1b' posts)

Anyways, back to the Time Zones. A lot of these are guesses, so if anyone knows better, please correct me, or fill in the blanks.

Do we have to worry about daylight-savings? It will change our timezones in march +1 for north and -1 for south (if any). My zone is correct. 47 is +/-0
Maybe we can add out timezone to our Location Info in the profile.

Good question. I didn't think about that, but I don't think it will be a problem. There are only a few current players from regions that don't observe DST(China/Aus) and the shift might actually help them get matches from/with other regions.

The only problem with time zones is they're not always a good indicator of when a person actually plays (regularly). I know this from experience. :P However, I suppose that's probably the best place to start and then use the data from actual game play (first post) to "confirm" that the reset teams will actually be more balanced.

Also, I think we have enough active people to support three teams if they truly are more balanced. Two teams is too few for real competition. At least with three teams, one of them can be a punching bag (B) for the other two (A,C). :P (that was a joke0 There may even be players waiting for the start of Season 2 before joining.
