DEFCON crashes under Mac OS X Leopard
I'm having problems with DEFCON, and as there's no Mac Troubleshooting forum, I have to post here. DEFCON plays as usual until the window just disappears, and the game stops responding and I have to force close it. After installing Mac OS X 10.5.6 update, it's still happening. Could someone help?
Yup, Trickser found the right thread.
Here's the Ambrosia Forum thread that discusses it: http://www.ambrosiasw.com/forums/index. ... pic=121863
As a temporary fix, until the update is issued, Ambrosia will send you a link to a different build of DEFCON if apporpriate.
(Look at the bottom of the Ambrosia link above.)

Why? wrote:PCs still have plenty of problems. They're just easier/cheaper to fix/upgrade and they have waaaaaaaaaaay more compatible software.
Yeah, because they can run all of the programs that run under Windows, and anything that will run under the Mac OS. Oh, wait. No... I'm thinking of Macs. Nevermind.

No one on a PC wants or needs any mac program. There are 5 times as many programs on PC, that do the same thing or better. There's much more demand from the other side. I, and every other PC user, couldn't give a fuck about dual booting OSX and XP....but mac users NEED it. [I do BackTrack(Linux LiveCD) & XP.]
It's just a fact that PCs, and their parts especially, are much cheaper in comparison. There are also many more users and manufacturers, so you have better support and more options.
Frankly, if your servers are any measure... I rest my case.

i am a mac and your a pc, blah blah blah...posting about the futility of each others choice in Computer in the forum is a waste of time, and counter productive to the common cause, the learn new stuff about the game we are all very fascinated by or addicted to, now that Vicky isn't spamming the forums we should try to redirect the forums into what they used to be, an informal discussion about this game we all love so much....

You first claimed that Macs are less compatible, which I countered by pointing out that a Mac can run anything that Windows can run. This argument is a non sequitor. Macs are the more compatible machine. Whether or not you care about dual booting, the fact is that Macs can do it -- easily and legally -- while generic PCs running Windows or Linux cannot.

No, it isn't "a fact." Apple does not sell low end machines. Apple does not give you a lot of options. But the hardware that they sell is pretty much in line with what you would pay Dell or HP to build a similar system. There is a slight markup (on the order of 5-10%), but part-for-part, they are pretty comparable. If you are complaining that Apple does not sell low end systems, why not make the same argument about Alienware?

Actually, the server has been up and down because the power in the part of the world has been unreliable since the snow started. The Mac has actually stayed up through most of the flickers, but the PC and the DLS modem went down. So, quite frankly, if your comment is to be any measure, you are an idiot.
