All I did was giving an order to my carriers to destroy those CPU vessels with bombers while they weren't in range, and they just starting pouring their shots even if they were out of range...
Units shooting beyond range, anyone?

only the lead bombers seem to be firing.
Seem to me that the bombers start firing if by the time their shots land they will be in range for the next shot
If the bombers were moving at 90 degres to the target then they don't seem to fire unless they are definitely in range
You'll see that the bombers (e.g. the one at the top) have their shots a different distances behind the one at the front
Someone took advantage of that in a game against me a few days ago.
Can't remember who but I was impressed as I watched my navy being obliterated by bombers I couldn't reach in time
