New 1v1 Money Tournament - Starts April 17th

Postby White--Rabbit » Mon Mar 31, 2008 3:11 am

1v1 Tournament

The tourney starts next week!

Prizes: CND Dollars
1st Place = $50.00
2nd Place = $30.00
3rd Place = $20.00
Newbie Prize = Defcon poster or soundtrack courtesy of ynbniar :D This prize will be give to the best of the newbie players.

Minimum players = 24
Maximum players = 32

Format (May be modified when total number of players has been established)

Just like the world cup of soccer.

There will be a minimum of 6 groups of 4 with a maximum of 8 groups of 4 for the tournament. Each group plays in a round-robin format, guaranteeing that every player will play at least 3 matches in their group. The top two players from each group will advance to the knockout stage. The knockout stage is a single-elimination tournament in which each player will play each other in one-off matches. It begins with the "round of 16" (or the second round) in which the winner of each group plays against the runner-up of another group. This is followed by the quarter-finals, the semi-finals, the third-place match (contested by the losing semi-finalists), and the final.

How the round robin will work

The top two players from each group will advance to the knockout stage leaving 12 players at the end of th RR. Out of the remaining 12 players, 4 wild card spots will be awarded to the top point getters for the 3 games that the remaining players played. So every point and nuke counts. The groups and match ups have been decided. You can view these at:

http://defcon1v1.zxq.net/index.htm

The players are responsible to schedule their own matches. When the tournament starts post here with the date and times so they can be added t othe webpage.

How the knockout stage will work

Will be posted when we have the final 16 players.

***Final version of the rules***

1. 2 points for a win. In the event of a tie, 1 point will be awarded to each player regardless of who is the stated winner at the end of the game. For example if rus|mike and void both end the game with 94 points but the game says void is the winner, both players get 1 point each and the game is officially called a tie

2. In the event of any ties at the end of the round robin a total game, total point tie breaker will be used to determine who finishes 1st and 2nd in their respective groups. For example:

Player A and Player B each finish in their group with 4 points.
Player A scored a total of 209 points in their 3 games in their group.
Player B scored a total of 210 points in their 3 games in their group.
1st Place = Player B
2nd Place = Player A

In the event that the total amount of points are equal for both players a playoff match to determine 1st place in the group will be played.

3. Random selection of the territories for any given match.

4. Games ending with technical difficulties will dealt with the same way they were dealt with in the ladder. If a game experiences technical difficulties during or after DEFCON 3, the result of the game (as played out vs. the CPU) shall stand. Alternatively, the match can be rescheduled at the sole discretion of the player who didn't leave the game if he or she so chooses.

5. After match screen shots must be posted. Go to imageshack or some other service but screen shots MUST be posted.

6. No shows will be handled in the same manner as technical difficulties. No shows for matches loose automatically unless the other player who showed up wishes to reschedule.

7.The time the games are played will be determined by the players. Send a PM.

8.All games must be played on the tournament servers provided by bert. There has been a 12 minute total slowdown budget applied on these servers for this tournament. The only person with admin rights on these servers is bert. Bert is not going to administer any of the games and he is not responsible for any of the games played during the tournament. So leave him alone! If there is a dispute of any kind, send me a pm.

9. If there are any disputes arising from any of the tournament games, I will resolve the dispute to the best of my abilities. That is I will listen to both sides, and make a binding decision.

All prizes will be awarded using paypal.

You can sign up for this tourney by placing a post here saying im in or something similar. If you have any suggestions on how to make this tourney better please feel free to leave your comments.

Good luck

NOTE: The prize money was donated by one of my clients for the purpose of organizing this tourney. If there isn't enough interest, the tournament will be canceled and all the prize money will go to my beer fund  We have 30 days to get 32 players!

Sounds like a lot of work - judging by the ladder I'd estimate at least 2 months to get all this done. But I'll throw my hat in - we'll need all the player numbers we can get!

Cheers, Tripper
