The USA has a huge problem with our jail and criminal system. We hate rehabilitation, we taboo mental disorders, and people like you make it hard to have a conversation with. We rather lock people up than sort out the actual issues because it's easier and pysologically more comforting, but does not reduce crime at all or deter it.
You're a civil servant endless, you should be who people run too not run away from, not with a blue code, good ole boy attitude that too many departments adopt in the name to protect the state and their own skins. You should be held to a standard higher and scrutinized carefully. See what north east Europe is going. You might not like the low sentences, the social rehabilitation programs, and the pacifistic nature, but it works. Unfortunately, too many people in this country are easily scared no thanks to mass media and the police lobby brings in too much money from petty crap like fortitude. Higher prison rates doesn't nessicarly mean higher crime, it means a broken system designed to imprison people for stupid shit, and this goes to your judge buddy's too.

I should know better? I am very proud of it. I don't know what fantasy world you are living in, but having more police presence works. I'll give you an example: Cincinnati, Ohio in 2013 was the 5th worst city to live in according to crime rate per 100,000 people. The city hired 110 more police officers that year. In January of 2016, it had a population growth of 29% and crime had been reduced by 37%. Their formally troubled district of Over the Rhine is now a completely different area. There are no more projects, there are 20 more decent restaurants and bars, and city income has increased ten fold.

What they do in Europe will not necessarily work over here. They may have a better rehabilitation rate, but they don't have the cities that we do. This is comparing apples to oranges.

The people in the communities I serve do come to me and my brothers with issues. They come to us with support. They come to us if they need support. Our local counties and cities have town hall meetings where the citizens can voice their pleasure or displeasure. It works. We hear it. Thecriminals run away from us. They have always done that. They don't just come up to us and say, "hey, I've just killed 3 kids." Get out of this dream world you live in.

And for my judge buddies, I don't have any. The last one I thought I was my buddy, let a guy who broke my leg and my ankle while attempting to kill me get away with 2 years in prison. How is that fair?

Don't even act like you know what you're talking about in this regard. I know you're a smart person, but you're way out of your league here.
