Defcon crashing after Update to 1.42

Postby viciarg » Mon Jul 02, 2007 10:23 am

Hello.

I upgraded my Defcon (on WinXP, enough RAM and stuff) to 1.42 and now it crashes to desktop when I try to start a game, rolling demo or the tutorial. Before the upgrade (v1.1) it run perfectly.

I got my version via download, no steam and nothing else. Before I encountered the crashes I tried to use the SatCon mod and the space8 mod successive; the mod support was the reason I upgraded to 1.42. The crashes occured with and without either one of the mods.

Here's my debug.txt in case you need it, authkey, keyID and auth hashtoken were blanked out by myself in order to prevent piracy. If you need more information please notify me here.

Thank you.

On crashes, there also should be a file called blackbox.txt, could you post that, too?

I'm sorry, there is no such file in neither the defcon directory nor any subdirectories .

Is this something that can be sorted by deleting one of the text files?

I'm sure I remember having a similar problem and deleteing the game-history text file sorted it???

Maybe, but the game history bug was fixed (can't remember when, but certainly in 1.42). I'd try a complete reinstall of the game, I think 1.42 is also available as a full download. Make sure you wipe the old installation directory good, and also make sure your authkey is kept safe as you'll have to reenter it.

The history problem was fixed in 1.3 - but then if all else fails...

Also, for future reference, problems like this should be posted in the 'Windows Troubleshooting' subforum. The relevant people - i.e. frenchfrog - may not see it here (though once NeoThermic is back online he may move it for you).

Clean reinstall is probably the easiest thing to do at this point (do a backup of your Defcon directory for further refenrece).

If it still doesn't works, perhaps give a try at Defcon 1.1 to see if it still works.

Please post back if it works or not.

Oh, sorry, I think I've overlooked this subforum. Now trying to re-install the game and get this thread moved to the proper subforum.

Thank you.
