How is this not cheating?

ok i been getting some flack from "space bombers"! However there's this weird cheat i keep seeing when someone who did not scout your silos manages to "blind nuke them somehow? How do they do it ghost as a spectator?

happened twice now i will find the recordings...

so basically someone has worked out how to locate silos by AA fire and its used as a end-game tactic. OK i can see its not directly cheating but it is another "exploit" which only certain players can do. So if you can do it, great. If you can't and you play someone who can you cannot win. Problem is most people (unless of course they are aware that "blind-nuking" can be done) will assume that something fishy has gone down. I apologize for the quit AE but i did not know how you could of found my silos when i had kept you away from them.

Whats best strategy to deal with this if you think your opponent can blind nuke you?

One way is to mask AA traces, by ordering silos to fire at your own planes - fighters are replenishable anyway. This way is unconvenient because you will lose your planes, your silos AA value is wasted and you must give orders for every single shot. Still as long as enemy planes' radar doesn't cover your silos, it will work. If it is Defcon 1, you can just open silos and close them immediately. The most reliable way however is to fire your silos first, or right after the enemy did. Finally you can simply ask for a game without blinding.

Blind nuking has been around for awhile. Its not a cheat, I even know how to do it. I am a noob though when it comes to it. You just need to guess where to hit based off where the AA is firing. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

"A while" is putting it pretty mildly. We didn't figure it out during the beta, but it wasn't long after the game was released that we started seeing it.

First time it was done to me, Xarlaxas did it. If I remember right. Then I just taught myself years latter when I became a serious player & settled on the Nick Sicilian Hound.

From my knowledge the first way to blindnuke silos was made by Ender in 2007 (called ender tactic), based on triangulation of AA.

Then Mrmot and Hi There found new ways, differents but both based on the range of AA.

If blind nuking is guessing where silos are by watching AA tracers or just your best guess then it doesn't seem like cheating.
