last time I checked, bot was occupying the only available spectator slot at several servers. I suggest you check this line in config:

Code: Select all

MaxSpectators [#]

The Common Config for all server the following command is set at:

Code: Select all

MaxSpectators 4

So there should be 3 open spec slots, the bot takes up a slot. I also checked the individual Config Files and found no MaxSpectators command.

You may be thinking when the couple of cheaters came through, and in response we Restricted spectating in most servers for a week or two. But everything is back normal, has been for awhile.

It says there's only one spec allowed (and it's bot). Checking config is the best advice I can give.

Soon GROUP 6 recordings will also be listing all the old Quake recordings. If anyone has file of sfCON Recordings we would like them please, no matter the numbers.

It would be good if you add the option to see the names of the players joining the servers in the metaserver list.

edit: I find that it's particularly hard to join a server already started. I don't know if there is a connection problem or a setting problem. It's very slow to join or rejoin a started match.

Well recently we have been getting a very high amount a traffic on Group 6 servers. If there is 1 or more game being played at once, I have noticed it is very hard to connect as a spectator into a game. But no lag in game has been reported or noticeable. Anthrax our host is working on it right now.

I actually noticed that myself. I guess it's the server trying to manage such high traffic all at once. Pretty much like how you would end up with slow internet, because sometimes their are so many people trying to use the same internet connection at the same time. (or something along those lines anyways.)

Yes, just yesterday I seen 4 server in use at once. The recorded I have seen is 6 at once. But the problem is just for spectating. No problems are occurring in game. & corrective action is being taken to fix the problem.

Dedcon traffic requirements are very humble, even assuming all G6 servers are running at the same time. Imo it has more to do with the game rather than hosting.

I don't know, in my experience the match itself was never the problem but the bandwith of the hosting service.

edit: maybe less pornoservers would be fine..hehe

Well, I still have hosting stats from quake. Even when 4+ servers were running simultaneously traffic never gone over 30-40 kbps, while I've had files downloaded at 1.4 Mbps. I've also made sure that game config had bandwidth set several times higher than by default - it didn't change anything. My guess is that dedcon transfers a ridiculous amount of tiny packages, so a huge bandwidth doesn't really speed it up.

The server has a dedicated low contention 100Mbps internet connection, the dedcon servers barely make a blip in terms of network usage.
