You're clearly able to get out over HTTP, possible being filtered by a Websense/bluecoat (or other) proxy.
If you're that intent on getting on an IM, I could probably explain to you how to do it. Consider for yourself of that violation of policy is a risk you are willing to take, as in the cases I've seen it happen (and when clearly stipulated in your contract) it's a basis for termination. However, if port 80 is open towards the internet, you should be able to bypass any proxy/filter or firewall. At your own risk, however.

Oh, I'm certain I can bypass it, but it's not in me to go so far as to blatantly violate company policy and risk termination. I have kids to feed

Some places are more relaxed about it (or have lousy admins lol) but I would say: very wise choice. On a side-note, I just knew you were an integer man
