Defcon 1.4 retail patch - first thoughts

Postby KudrigY » Thu Apr 19, 2007 10:29 pm

I have just finished few of my first 1.4 games and...

Unfortunately, I must say this patch is very hard on CPU and or GPU... There were just 2-4 ppl max, and in several moments my pc was stressed even more that in 6ppl games when 50-100 nukes were inbound.

I pity those with low-end computers. I think that was coused by the need of cross-platforming coding, but after playing those games, I am not that keen fan of that anymore...

Having 700+ games played, I meant cross-platforms of course:)

oh. What I meant was if you gradualy stopped liking it. But I was never a fan of the whole cross platform, its such a small group of users.

While it is still playable, the lag is much, much, much worse with 1.4 for myself as well.

We're investigating this. Things definately shouldn't be "much much worse".

Could you all please post your system specs in this thread - processor type/speed, graphics card type, installed memory.

Thanks!

atm

EPOX9nPA+SLI with an Amd 3200+
2* 6600 GT (Sli)
1 GB Ram
XP

i switched the sli on and off and it doesnt make a difference as in the older version
apart from the connection the mouse feels sometimes a bit laggy in v1.4, which wouldnt bother me further, if i just had a nice ping :)

Specs

Postby ynbniar » Fri Apr 20, 2007 12:10 pm

Played a 4 player and 6 player last night.

No problems with the 4 player but got about 2mins of "slowdown" during the 6 player game, apart from that no problem and no difference from 1.3 - I could be wrong but the slowdown seemed to concide with a third spectator connecting. Did not get connection problem message and the network bar thingy at the top did not turn red.

P4 3.2GHz
2 gig ram
7800GTX 256MB
Windows XP Home
8MB broadband with BT (though it rarely goes faster than half this 'cuase I live in the sticks).
AVG free edition always running

EDIT 21.04
Noticed some strange mouse behaviour tonight, never happened before.
6player diplo

Missed a few mouse clicks, so I placed 2 subs instead of 3 - never missed mouse clicks before.
Missed a few mouse clicks so I placed 2 battleships instead of 3 - bear in mind that because this has never happened before I didn't check if 3 battleships were seleted.

At the start of the game bombers I sent from mid africa toward north africa ended up heading east? Again I suspect this was a mouse click lag.

After that no probs.

2 PC's, one work one, one home one.

Work one:

Centrino Duo 1.73ghz
1gb ram
Nvidia 7400
XP SP2
2mbit/2mbit internet

Home one:

AMD X2 4200+
Dual SLI 7900GT
4gb ram
XP SP2
1500/256 internet

Edit: Main problems are with real time.

If you want a Fraps video of it occuring, or want me to simulate anything, drop me an email mgraham@cig.com.au and I'll record something. If you have a logging method, I can do that too.

Don't laugh too much, my computer is packed away for the summer so I use my parents:

Intel Pentium 4
2.4 GHz
512 mb RAm
On board video

While the system may be humble, it ran DEFCON nearly flawlessly in 1.3.
