Xocrates...
I was actually thinging the same thing about the fact that the speed of units at the poles would make playing almost impossible up there.
Thanks for your input. You are starting to get me to consider scraping my gaming and software engineer friends to do a different game.

A Defcon-like game, played on a globe, would no doubt be awesome. However, it is not the game the IV made, and it would not be the same game. It would be a similar game, but not the same. It would be like comparing checkers with chess. They are both played on a square board subdivided into 64 smaller squares, and they both encourage you to get your pieces to the end of your enemy's territory, but, beyond that, they are very different game. Defcon and Globecon may not be as different as chess and checkers, but they would be very different games, mechanically and strategically. So, if you think that Globecon is a really good idea, you should write it yourself, or pay someone to do it. Defcon is not Globecon, and the advantages and disadvantages of a flat map are part of the game mechanic of Defcon.

I'm not convinced that a globe version would be nearly as fun. Just at first glance, it seems that it would be cluttered and awkward when trying to fire from one point to the exact opposite side, you'd have to rotate the globe around and around and around just to give simple orders. It looks like you would also have a problem with unit "trails" as well. Lots of overlap. One last thing, it would be hard to tell which units are where if they appear on the "horizon". (just looking at the yellow ones)
All just constructive criticism.

I understand.
But you guys have won me over. DEFCON and GLOBECON are different games.
Thanks for your time!

What I found interesting was the ease with which a globe can be rotated to be looked at from any perspective. If I saw ships appearing on a "cluttered" horizon, it would be a matter of a second before I could rotate the globe to check out the situation.
And as I said, it would be very important to be able to give the players a standard projection to monitor all events simultaneously. This would be simple by simply assigning each unit a latitude and a longitude and mapping them in the projection used by DEFCON now.
In my opinion, one of the most important aspects of global warfare in the modern age is the fact that the Earth is spherical. Doing it on a flat map is like playing RISK. Now, believe me RISK is a damned fun game. And I have nothing against it. I have spent hundreds of hours playing it. And I would tell someone who was desperately trying to map it to a 3D globe to fly a kite. So I understand your point.

I can't get enough of Risk. Just so you know, I'd be one of the first to try out Globecon, although that name needs more flare.
Perhaps it would simply be a matter of a change of icons.

Back in the day I liked it a lot, but I havn't played it in four or five years. DEFCON is a way better game though.

I also enjoy traveling. We frequently travel for both business and family vacations. Additionally, I frequently order tickets from this website thailand first class flights . Flying in business class is convenient and comfy; you barely realize the flight.
