Advantages/Disadvantages of each nation

Postby Parakirby » Tue Oct 10, 2006 5:54 pm

North America:
DISADVANTAGES:
Due to it's location, it can eaisily be attacked by South America.
Cities are on the coast, therefore, the eaisiest to attack.
There are few cities in Canada that are vulnerable.

ADVANTAGES:
South America's major city is right next to it.
Alaska can provide a way to see units coming in from Russia and Asia early.
Canada provides important radar if placed properly on the East Coast.

Good vs:
Asia
Russia
South America

South America:
DISADVANTAGES:
It's major city is right by the US.
It's not thick enough. A sub can launch a nuke from the west coast at Sao Pualo (sp?).

ADVANTAGES:
The US might fire at nukes coming at it from Europe, Russia, and possibly Asia.
It's size makes anti-air more effective.

Good vs:
Africa
Europe

Europe:
DISADVANTAGES:
It's size is what makes it vulnerable-- Everything's so close together.
Due to the fat, juicy cities so close by, Russia, Asia, and Africa are constantly the first to co-op against Europe.
London, a major city, is on an island. Because of it's extremely close location to the sea, and being Europe's most populated city, makes it a sweet target.
Planes can, possibly, be shot by three countries at once.

ADVANTAGES:
Iceland. Put a radar and an anti-air to infuriate America and some subs.
Due to it's closeness to Moscow and Cairo, it can nuke two major cities with ease.
It can launch subs almost at the start towards Russia or Africa.
Because it's so close to three other countries, nukes coming to Europe may be shot down by your common enemy. And vice versa.

Good vs:

Africa
North America

Africa:
DISADVANTAGES:
It's major city, Cairo, is waaay out there and close to three enemies.
AIDS.

ADVANTAGES:
Madagascar is an eehish advantage, not as good as Alaska or Iceland.
The vast emptiness of the Sahara Desert means more time to see the nukes and intercept.
Because it's so close to three other countries, nukes coming to Africa may be shot down by your common enemy. And vice versa.

Good vs:
Europe (Debatable, but this is true. With so few cities near it and the ability to build silos close to it, it's very effective with 1v1.)
Russia (See Europe)

Russia:
DISADVANTAGES:
Too big. There are a few straggler cities that make good prey for Asia.
Too much exposed land to Asia. It goes the other way, too.
It's major cities are right by Europe and Asia's land.

ADVANTAGES:
All of it's major cities are inland and therefore a tad bit more difficult to sub-nuke.
The Bering Strait.
Can place subs right outside of Tokyo right at the start.

Good vs:
Europe
Africa

Asia:
DISADVANTAGES:
Too open to Russia.
Nukes to SA may be shot down by NA.
Japan is on an island, and all it's major cities are coastal.
Planes in the west will be eaisily shot down by three enemies at once.
India and Iraq are way out there, and have semi-major cities to defend. They're also uncomfortably close to Africa, Russia, and Europe.

ADVANTAGES:
Ships can be placed right by Africa's weak south.
Nukes coming from Europe/Russia/Africa may be shot down.

Good vs:
South America
Africa (Very good, in fact)

Any additions?

I'd say another disadvantage with Asia is just how vulnerable India is, most people place one or no silos on the subcontinent and how the Middle Eastern cities are far from the rest of the Asian cities making them hard to defend.

Well I find those to be disadvantages, maybe I'm just rubbish.

Alaska can see units from Russia and Asia ok, but units from Europe are better seen from Canada, where the nukes come in bags.

I think the biggest disadvantage to North America is Canada. There is a huge swath of land with no cities that is hard to justify wasting a silo on protecting, and subs and carriers parked above it can hit a large portion of the west coast. By the time the subs and carriers are in position (from Russia, generally), most of NA's navy has probably been toasted, and there's only one sea route to the top. The only real defense is to waste a radar and airbase up there, and six carriers and six subs can generally deal with that fairly quickly.

I disagree. I think that Canada is one of the bigest advantages of North America. If you abandon the west coast, and position all of you nukes along the eastern seaboard, and give yourself a bit of radar coverage to the north (expect it to fail at some point), you can do really well with North America.

It seems that the "sacrifice one region to bulk up another" strategy is a pretty popular one. I know Asia suffers from it the most, I think. They essentially have to give up India and Tehran and sometimes Tokyo to protect the Chinese main.

I wonder if it's worth writing off Cairo as a lost cause and protecting the rest of Africa?

London, a major city, is on an island.

If there was a piece of land connecting it to France, would it really make any difference?

I fail to see how this is a disadvantage.

It is not that it is on an island that is the problem per se, the problem is that it is more isolated from your main defences in the mainland.

To be honest, Britain is close enough to Europe for it to easily be defended. Its usually one of the safer cities as it is far from Russia, Asia and Africa. Only America can touch it, and then only in the late stages of the game.

The problem is that if you abandon the west coast you are basically giving Asia's subs free points for California when they come for Mexico City.

Bump.

Note that I usually play on Genocide mode, so these notes are from a constant 'kill everything' mode.
