DEFCON video competition - now closed

Postby vic » Tue Oct 10, 2006 5:07 pm

IV needs your help - we are on the hunt for some really fantastic DEFCON videos that we can give out to journalists to show-off DEFCON at its best.

We are looking for 2 minute gameplay videos in Quicktime and wmv - ideally the more active and exciting the better, showing off as many gameplay features as possible. Please could you host them on a site, send us a link and we can take a look at them.

The best three chosen will receive free DEFCON posters! :)

Vic

EDIT: I'm extending this competition for one more week until Monday 23rd to see if we can encourage some more entries! I will be announcing the winners next Monday.

Sounds awesome!

Is there a deadline?

Resolution max/min?

Size limit?

I assume we have permission to use the soundtrack from the game in the video?

Yes - the deadline is rather short - all entries need to be submitted by Monday 16th 12pm BST.

Certainly feel free to use the soundtrack!

Resolution: 640 x 480

Size Limit: 100 Mb

Can it be edited with any kind of music or does it have to be DEFCON music?

DEFCON music would probably be best since this will be seen and used by journalists and we need it to represent the real game.

Good point, I totally agree. When you say it like that it makes me realize DUH I totally wanna support IV. They're such a fantastic group. Ok thanks, I'll be back with any questions. Oh, do you know of anything that can make a Quicktime video? Thanks.

Video

Postby Scribs21 » Wed Oct 11, 2006 5:54 am

Here is a vid I did in about 15 minutes. It's rough, but I can make it better. Why isn't anyone else posting vids for the cause??

Nice video. I like the way you assembled your shots.

She only asked for videos 12 hours ago so it will probably take a little time to get tem all in.

Out of curiosity, what did you use to screen capture?

Edit - pronoun

Arrgh, I woulda been more than glad to make one, except i just went away from home for the rest of the week. ( Im left with a very small 400mb limit to my internet. :P )

If you still want a video by Sunday, ill be willing to make one. :P
"Surely you didn't mean to press that button just then did you?"
"No, nor will i disarm the nukes."
"Oh well, I will have my Fighters shoot them down."
"Sure you will."

Vic, any chance the deal could be sweetened for participants/winners with a defcon t-shirt as well?

I'd ask for a free copy of Defcon but I and most people who would make a video already have one!

P.S. Sorry about the masculine pronoun if you are a girl. :D

I am guessing that Vic is indeed Ms Arundel

Victoria, any chance of you clarifying the theme you wish to capture for the video? Full gameplay, more cinematic or a cross between the two?

Cheers

if you have a video out on your vid card, plug that & the audio out in to a vcr/digital vid camera with RCA in. The nyou can tape & re-capture to your computer if you have the ability to do that.

EDIT: could you sign the winners box copy if you haven't sent it out? ;) just asking! (can't hurt)
