Aliens in Defcon?

Postby MattD » Sun Oct 08, 2006 6:34 pm

In the Defcon main directory, open main.dat with WinRAR and extract the Language folder. if you look into the file which contains the english language and open it with wordpad, there's a unit named ''Alien Saucer'' under unit names. At which point does this unit appear? What triggers it?

It was something in the old Alpha's. However, it has been apprently disabled in the latest releases.

By disabled in release, I mean that if you try and enable them, Defcon crashes.

Oh I see. I thought you meant there was a version out at one point that allowed them (also where I thought you got that screenie from).

Yeah, that was way back in the early alpha's though (hence the NON-PLAYABLE DEMO string). Being unable to run the old alpha's means that I can't work out at what stage they were disabled, and with so many changes done between the alpha and the release, it woudn't be the case of just looking to see what was changed.

random occurance of some aliens in some games is a good idea and would make the game more realistic.

Make it more realistic lol ?

I reckon it might have been part of a separate gametype where 1 player controlled the aliens and the others controlled territories and tried to defend Independence day style :D
