Admin restrictions ? Defcon and a USB-stick !

Postby Stephen Falken » Wed Oct 04, 2006 9:32 pm

At our office it is not possible to install programs without admin permission. So today I tried this:

Copied the Defcon folder from the installation on my home computer on a memory stick. Then I plugged the stick into the office computer and tried to run the Defcon.exe from that stick. It works !! Connected to servers without a problem. It wasn't even necessary to copy the files on the office computer.

Worth a try if you can't install it because of admin restrictions. :P

I would love to be able to play at school. I have all the files there, but the school computers restrict us from launching .exe files.

Oh yeah memory sticks are great - they're like removable hard-drives, and you can treat them as such. ;)

Dyer try creating a file in notepad with the first line reading:

Defcon.exe

save it has defcon.bat and try running that. Should work if I know school budgets and always going for some crappy little software thats full of holes the size of Austrilia.

Or just rename the exe "notepad.exe". Most (my) school's restrictions go by the name of the program rather than the programs themselves.

At my school, all we had to do was rename the .exes after programs which the security automatically authorized to use. For example, Turok for Windows was allowed to be executed when renamed to 'Photoshop.exe' in my computer graphics class.

Did that to bring it to my friend's house... he has a kickass computer and it almost froze for 10 minutes when I pressed P to take a screenshot. x_x

And we're afraid of computer security in the near future. :P

Are .COM files blocked too ? If not, rename Defcon.exe to Defcon.com !
