MicroDEFCON 1.37MB Mod

Postby LordSturm » Tue Oct 03, 2006 7:50 am

This is a much smaller version, and also includes cool image mods. :P ( Nothing that impedes game play. )

Code: Select all

MicroDEFCON - 1.37MB ( For use in Offices on UMD ThumbDrive or via e-mail. )

1. Extract the contents to a folder.
2. Find your "defcon.exe" and "main.dat" and copy them into the new folder.
3. Copy the new folder to your USB ThumbDrive or do whatever.

( Have your Auth key handy, or be prepared to play the Demo. )

Now that wasnt as hard as the old version was it? :P
Stripped Down by LordSturm. ( Thanks to BlueLemon for the simpler way. :P )

Visit ( www.sykotech.com )

NOTICE: This distribution includes graphical modifications of the game, to remove these, simply delete the "graphics" folder in the included data folder.

Do not delete "sounds.txt" in data, or the game will go haywire about missing sound files.

Special thanks to "XF Clohvn" for the New FighterJet sprites.
Custom Silo graphics by "LordSturm" ( Modification on IV SAM sites. )

For those who like Office mode, or want to play this game at places where you have no sound, this is the perfect mod for you.

And we wonder how thin women become anorexic. Perhaps you could take a swing at the other 12 gigs in my SteamApps folder instead?

Hey man, now i can chuck the whole game into a zip file and email it to my school computer and play it in a small window. :P

Its around the same file when its all compressed, :P.
"Surely you didn't mean to press that button just then did you?"
"No, nor will i disarm the nukes."
"Oh well, I will have my Fighters shoot them down."
"Sure you will."
"Oh NOES, ITS BEEN PATCHED!!!"

I can just imagine the faces of the administration at my old school if they discovered I had a global thermonucleur war simulator with "Everybody Dies" as a slogan on one of their network drives.

This is a good thing, I shall hold off one whole nuke if we ever meet in combat. :D

The next logical step is to make the game 6+GBs. You could try a few million lines of comments in the .dat files, as long as you don't value your time too heavily.

Yep thats my anti-piracy proposal to IV. :P
Cram pack random blank dat files that are checked for integrity, :)

( Good luck with people downloading demos. :( )

maybe i could make the map a hi-res Google earth one, that would allow zooming to some extreeme extent!

Or not. :)

I've heard things about the exe becoming larger when activated, is this true?
( Never happened to mine, >_> ) - Then again i use the demo most of the time.

The other way to reduce defcon file size by removing sounds is a modification of main.dat. Simply rename the file 'sounds_nosound.txt' within to 'sounds.txt' (you will need to do something about 'sounds.txt' that is already there.)

NOW you tell me... <_<

I'm really going to nuke my self now...

BRB.

EDIT: A far simpler mod...

Code: Select all

1. Make a blank text file called sounds.txt and put it in the Data folder.
2. Delete sounds.dat.

Now its even smaller.. :( ( I spent ages doing all that nulling lol. :P )

ahh yes, forgot that a /data/ folder would overide main.dat if it existed.

Hey, your download link is dead, and when I tried the tutorial to make my own "floppy defcon" it doesn't work anymore.. I think the instructions were for version 1.42 and perhaps in 1.43 it was disallowed? I followed the tutorial instructions step by step but when I extract and repack the main.dat (without even altering any of the contents) and try to play the game it always crash giving a cryptic error message.
