System Tray Icon does not alert change in Defcon number!

Postby calacorm » Mon Oct 02, 2006 7:25 pm

Just a quick point. The system tray icon does not alert a change in defcon level. If you are playing in office mode (Not that I would do that at work, ) It would be essential to know when the Defcon changes.

Agreed.
Some people talk because they have something to say. Others talk because they have to say something.

Yep. And it seems to default to "Enemy Subs Detected" - I tested this out by starting a game with just myself and sure enough, "Enemy Subs Detected" flashed as soon as it was Defcon 4. But obviously there weren't any...

Yeah those bugs were in the beta, too, along with the suggestion of having some notification of change in defcon level. Surely it will be in a patch.

doesn't a little blinking nuclear symbol in the lower right do the exact opposite of "boss mode"? I'd want it to be as hush-hush as possible.

if you envoke that mode, it's specificly because you do NOT want the guy behind you knowing what's going on. If they saw a "Defcon 1" flashing they'd eigther a) accuse you of playing a game or b) fall the FBI, NSA, CIA, or whatever govt. agancy is closest & have you reported for something not to kosher. :(

OR they could add a pop up when you reach defcon 1 that says:
YOU HAEV ENTERED DEFCON 1. NUCLEAR ATTACKS NOW ALLOWED.

It wouldn't have to be anything big. It could be as simple as just putting a red number over the nuclear symbol and changing it whenever the defcon number changes (the number would be there all the time). Then when the number changes it could flash or something.

Besides, most major companies have keyloggers on their computers now anyway, and all the network traffic is monitored, so the network admin will know you are playing a game anyway.

then if you're not worried about someone knowing, play a faster game. Odds are you could squeeze speed defcon into your lunchbreak.

exactly.

Where I work 75% of all screens are recorded daily on a floating random chance. So there is a good chance if your playing a game, that your getting recorded... witch is usually acceptable as long as your not on a call, or doing something pornographic

again, why even bother using boss mode then? Why not just play out in the open? If you're not worried about getting caught then there's no point to putting it in boss mode.
