Graphics Mod: "Extraterrestrial"

Postby zach » Sun Oct 01, 2006 4:19 am

I think it's safe to publish this now.
It's a small mod I've been fiddling with ... Well, I don't know if it's technically okay to start calling what we do "mods", as we can't change much but simple graphics as of yet ... And of course the coastlines and city names if we feel like spending 100+ hours on that without proper tools :P

Anyway, here goes.

~

Defcon graphics mod: EXTRATERRESTRIAL
Graphics and names for all units have changed, as well as explosions being more translucent. You can in fact count how many B-bombs (nukes) has hit your precious dome by counting the number of small rings contracting towards it.
Nothing has changed other than names and graphics and maybe a few unit descriptions, so it's quite easy to still play as you would;

Dome = Silo
Radar Tower = Radar Station
Hangar = Airbase
UFO = Fighter
Airship = Bomber
Cruiser = Battleship
Mothership = Carrier
Sub = Sub

I've made more visual room in Hangars and Motherships, partly to make it easier to tell how many UFOs/Airships are left, and partly to compensate for the size of the UFO :roll:

Subs look a bit smoother, and it's now very easy to tell the difference between a surfaced and a diving Sub.

But that's just me babbling, have a look for yourself (style is clean brass by Black Griffon):

Keep in mind they're not in a "data/" folder, so you have to create that yourself. In any case, the readme.txt should explain everything well enough.

Enjoy :)

Looks very good! Personally, I think it's good, but it's not something that I'd use. I like the UFOs as planes though; I might have to swap those. Mods are rising. This is good; people like customizability and this will help people wrap the game around themselves.

Thanks for the positive feedback! :D

Hehe, it isn't really something intended to be used generally. Has some neat effects for fifteen mintes of fun, that's all.
To be honest, I really just wanted to show this to sort of ... "get the modding community started", so to speak.

At the moment, I'm "developing" a modloader for Defcon (I'd need a few testers though) ... Anyway, I'll keep you all informed! :)

Constructive criticism is welcome, too :roll:

EDIT: Site down; bandwidth limit exceeded.
I'll try to find some other host :oops:
