Bugs and wishlist for server list / lobby

Postby GeneticFreak » Sat Sep 30, 2006 2:57 pm

Okay first of all I'd like to congratulate for a great game and I know you guys are probably pretty busy with stuff atm :)

Heres the bugs I found:

- Cursor doesn't stay on one server once selected while the list is scrolling, instead it stayed on one spot in the list (ending up with another server selected). Annoying when you click connect and it connects to a different server than what you intended.
- There is no insert password dialog for direct connect. So you can't direct connect to a passworded server.

And some wishlist:

- Search Function that enables you to find a server by name.
- Sorting functions clickable from the coloumn headers.
- Ping to server button that when pressed will ping the server from my client and shows what my ping to the server is (maybe add it to the Details window?)
- Buddylist function. Its the standard in most multiplayer lobbies nowadays :)

Have you tried using Zarkow's DefNet client?

Having studied the Defcon metaserver protocol previously, it has to ask you for your CD key - it has to authenticate before it can get a listing of servers.
Don't think about The Game.

Zarkow was/is a faithful Beta tester so you can pretty much trust him not to be using his app to secretly collect our keys. Heck, he even wants to try use 448bit encryption, sounds pretty trustworthy to me.

Its not exactly good practice to go plopping your key into strange programs though...

Im not saying that Zarkow is up to anything bad, I doubt it! However, if you don't know someone... best to play safe. no?

Indeed. It would be even more strange if Zarkow were new. However, you will notice he is in the credits of the game, both manual and in the background text. He's not new here and can be trusted.

I'm guessing this tool won't work with the Steam version?

Try, find out. Either post in Zarkow's thread or just download Defcon from the IV website and enter your Steam authkey when asked. Your Steam authkey is located within the file located here -> C:\\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\defcon\authkey, open with Notepad (or Wordpad, Word, Whatever), Copy&Paste. Although, to my knowledge, it should work with the Steam version.
