Steam 42% off.. wish I'd known

Postby graphain » Fri Sep 29, 2006 3:31 pm

Heh I just pre-ordered defcon from the main site with the implication that this was the price of a normal download with a free boxed set. I finally get Steam working later and realise they have it for 42% less ($9.95 US). Meh still supporting the little guy but wish I'd known. BTW These forums aren't the most user-friendly first go :S

Just to clarify for anyone else --
  1. Preorder from IV: £10 ($17.50). This gets you a download from IV, plus a free boxed copy. It costs more in US dollars because the exchange rate is so disadvantagous for us at the moment.
  2. Preorder from Steam: $9.95. This gets you a download from Steam.
  3. Normal order from IV: £10 + £5 for a boxed copy ($17.50 + $8.75). This gets you a download from IV, and a boxed copy, if you pay for it.
  4. Normal order from Steam: I don't know what this is going to cost, but I believe that it will be more expensive than the preorder

Again, just to be clear, IV are not trying to shaft the people that order direct. It is simple a matter of exchange rates sucking for Americans (yay for a weak dollar!).

$9.95 USD doesn't include a free box set - the Steam price is the digital download only.

Yeh I certainly didn't think IV was shafting anyone I was just wondering if this was right I guess - maybe IV was getting less money from Steam or something. I guess it just seemed strange and I still don't see how exchange rates explain it but still I like to see independent developers with innovation make some moolah so as long as they ain't getting shafted by Steam/Valve.

//Edit
Btw I do understand you don't get the box, but if the box costs more the advertising should be cleared up (it says free box right now). Also Steam normal is $14.95.

The box is free if you preorder.

After release, the game will cost $17.50 for just the download, or $26.25 for the download plus a box.

Ok so just $17.50 later today? I won't be home until 2 hours after release & want to DL on home pc but I really don't need a box shipped here to Nova Scotia.
