Router issues ...

Postby Michaeru » Wed Sep 27, 2006 8:08 pm

First: Excuse me if there have been a million of these threads, but please have mercy with me. :(
Also, I hope this doesn't fall under the NDA.

I'd like to know if there are any known issues with routers. Unableness to join a game, game crashes or similar stuff.

I have a router and funny enough, I never had to configure any port fowarding. HL2DM, SPCT, UT, you name it, it won't work without forwarding, but defcon seems to make an excpetion.

If I'm breaking an NDA, please delete this post, altough i don't see what harm can be done,2 days before realease, and with a leaked version circulating the internet.

Currently the testing shows no known issues with exact routers. There are some configuration settings that can cause problems though. For example the other day I tracked down and solved the reason why I couldn't join or host games. I had enabled UPNP on my router and it was conflicting with Defcon's attempt to transverse my NAT. All I had to do was disable it and I was fine.

There's probibally going to be some obscure setups causing problems, but this is all going to be accepted and looked at. Currently the support page has a few items to try for those who have first-day problems.

If you wish to find out if you're able to play Defcon through your router, nabbing a copy of WinSTUN from IV's downloads and running it will give you a port type as it's first line. If you post what that line says here, we can advise you on what it means and what you'll be able to do with Defcon.

Thanks for the quick reply, WinSTUN says:
Independent filter
Does not preserve port number
Supports hairpin of media
Public IP address: Do.You.Need.To.Know?

What do you need it for? Your plans to take over Germany?

You need no IP address for that. Set something official ablaze, blame someone on it and institute emergency laws giving you all the power you need. Tried and tested.

Er, I read the topic and I downloaded the program. Can someone tell me what this means, exactly?

That should be fine.

This one can cause problems (it's the only one that can IIRC). It's a TIAS thing here, but worst-case you'll have to use port forwarding (in Defcon's options) to get it to work.
