Quick question

Postby Foddmeister » Wed Sep 27, 2006 3:46 pm

Hi everybody :)

Been visiting here for a while, And got around to signing up :)

Well i loved Darwinia, And now very much looking forewards to Defcon, Got it preordered on Steam.

The only thing i am not looking forewards to, In Defcon is the Victory timer, Seems to rush a finish.

So can anybody tell me if there is in the final product, Going to be a way to turn this off. At the moment it's the only part of the game i don't like.

Cheers

Fodd :)

Could you explain how you think it is going to rush the end?

My understanding is that the victory timer does not even start until a certain number of nukes have been fired (this may be configurable, by the way). I see it as a way of ensuring that the game does end, and doesn't go on forever. I mean, in theory, without a victory timer, how do you determine that the game is over?

Hmmm How do you end a nuke war. Your reply to my question has got me thinking :)

Well if i ellaborate a little you may understand my thinking.

My style of gameplay, Basically i let the cpu make the first move against me, And i keep all my silo's in defence mode, Until the enemy has either exhausted his nukes, Or i get vaped. I then have my own attack using my remaining carriers and subs/silo's etc.

Most times during this counter attack, Whiile i am getting my subs and carriers into position, The counter starts, And the game ends while i still have missles flying.

So pehaps as a comprimise, When playing against the CPU the Human should decide when the game ends, And when playing online, Perhaps a vote should be cast to decide the game length, This may be the case, I don't know at the moment, I was just wondering if there will be a way to turn it of in the full version.

the USSR..... errr... "other side" could have an economic colapse first. In our case, a power failure & a disconnect. Or their mom saying "get to bed it's friggen 3am!"

Why don't you just admit you downloaded the illegally leaked version of the game?

I wouldent say i was flaunting, As the fact that i have eval copy would cause some tension, Crossed my mind, And that was not my intention, I really did not think it was an issue as i have paid for the full version, Via steam and it's ready for when it's realeased.

First, you are using the present tense when you describe your tactics. That leads one to think that you are already playing the game. As the only people that can currently play the game are IV staff, beta testers, reviewers, and people who have illegally downloaded review copies of the game, this is a concern. You are not IV staff, and you are not a beta tester. You might be a reviewer, but I doubt that. That means that if you are playing the game (as your post implies), you are doing so illegally. If this is true, I would not flaunt it on these forums. We don't take to kindly to pirates here.

Second, if the game is finishing before you launch your nukes, it is incumbant upon you to learn to deal with it. As I said above, the timer starts after a certain number of nukes have been fired. I believe that the time can be altered, and that the nuke threshold can be altered. However, I don't know with any real degree of certainty.

You paid for the release version not the review version so its pretty much irrevelent if you've paid for the game already. Perhaps you should think more carefully before admitting your illegal activities, especially when they involve the game developers whose forum you happen to be posting in.

It's two days to realease, And there isn't a public demo out? I thought that's all it was.

And i would just say, That every game i have i have paid for, And would not consider myself a pirate of any kind.

...and if you've pirated it anyway, why exactly do you need to ask questions about specific game options? You could just open it up and check yourself...

Anyways: If this victory timer actively discourages hunkering down and defending until everyone has finished nuking - I'm all for it.

No, there is no public demo out yet. It will probably come out shortly after release day.

You may not consider yourself a pirate, but many people here will.

I think he came here to find out if the option was added in release, or if he is missing it in the settings

Well, now that you have deleted it, welcome to the forums! I hope your time here is fruitful and entertaining.
