More specifics on Defcon 4 and 2?

Postby DaveKap » Tue Sep 26, 2006 4:16 am

I read the manual so I'm ready for Friday. However, I don't fully understand what is gained during Defcon 4 and Defcon 2 that you couldn't already do in Defcon 5 and Defcon 3. The manual says at Defcon 4 your radar sees enemy units. So... does that mean in Defcon 5 your radars are useless? And at Defcon 2 all the manual says is "more aggresive attacks". What exactly does this mean? If the naval units work at Defcon 3, what exactly is more aggressive at Defcon 2?

Hoping some beta testers can answer this for me.

About DEFCON5 and 4: the manual doesn't say radar is active at DEFCON5, but is at DEFCON4, therefore the radar must be offline at DEFCON5.

As for 3 and 2: No idea. Been wondering this myself.

I wouldn't count on it. Everything about this entire game, ever, seems to be under the NDA. I can tell you, from what I've managed to piece together, that it seems like DEFCON 5 is mainly for deploying units (hence the useless radar). Once you hit DEFCON 4, most of the enemy units are likely deployed, so then radar actually has a use.

As for the DEFCON 3-2 thing, I've been wondering myself. I don't know what exactly is available at each level, but I'm sure there might be some kind of minor difference. Probably nothing too significant, though, if anything.

Defcon 2 is just a stopgap until 1. Continued aggression means you will continue to attack using fleets and aircraft before being able to use nukes at Defcon 1.

About Defcon 2: As far I understand what I have heard until now, the auto-attacks(e.g. carriers auto-launching fighters) get more "agressive". So maybe the distance between carrier and enemy needed to trigger an auto-launch is increased. Please correct me if I´m wrong.

Maybe it just means that the fleets are more aggressive in their A.I?

I have been wondering about that as well. I think it might be like you can start to bombard cities and bomb with bombers on Defcon 2. Just speculation though.

Dont think about it too much. Defcon 3 you can attack & scout, Defcon 1 you can score points.

Have your subs & bombers in place then & go for the throat.

..and in DEFCON4 you can cry after realising you deployed your fleet in the wrong place and a previously "unthinkable" attack suddenly becomes very likely.

In your Command Bunker, no one can see you cry.

Defcon 5 you place your units and move fleets within international waters...

Defcon 4 your radar turns on

Defcon 3 no more units can be placed and you can engage the enemy in airborne and naval combat

Defcon 2 is more of the same.

Defcon 1 is time for nukes.

I don't know what all this "international waters" stuff is about, but you must place your naval fleets in waters that you control. After they are placed, ships can move around whatever waters you want.

Defcon 5: early placement of units before radar is enabled

Defcon 4: Placement of units after radar is enabled and you can see enemy units within radar range.

Defcon 3: Naval and Air attacks are enabled

Defcon 2: Buffer period between deacon 3 and 1

Defcon 1: Nukes become active
