Some faintly disturbing news!

Postby Gunrun » Wed Sep 20, 2006 10:16 pm

I was on IRC minutes ago, when someone, who I knew previously intended to pirate this fantastic game (Which I have preordered) posted this screenshot:
http://home.comcast.net/~benitojuarezxl/gunrun.JPG
With Gunrun=tool to prove that he took it, and also to accuse me of being a tool for buying something. This REALLY annoys me. Introversion is quite a small developer, and having their game leaked more than a week before release has GOT to be bad news. I hope the anti piracy things mentioned in this interview work:
IGN: Introversion is making bold steps to combat piracy and P2P file sharing. Can you explain what you're doing?

Chris Delay: We don't really want to give away the details of our plans because it makes it easier to counteract them, but suffice to say we don't believe conventional copy protection is effective. Games that check for CDs in the drive do nothing for anti-piracy, and just annoy legitimate users. DEFCON is multiplayer which means we have some control over things - all players have to connect to our service to get game listings for example, and we can control access to that service. But we can also do things to prevent the spread of pirate versions on the file-sharing networks
If a mod wants to PM me, or just plain delete this post, feel free to. I admit, I only really skimmed over the rules, and I hope I am not in violation of any of them. I just thought you would like to know.

Looks like a review copy, so one of the reviewers just couldn't help it I guess.
There are also hints about a already cracked steam version of the game....

It just pisses me off that some people are so cheap as to avoid spending $10
God I hate pirates.

It's already in the wild on the major sites, and according to the NFO, it's cracked so that any key works (not sure if this is the case, guess IV will want to monitor the metaserver for spurious keys).

Yes, its obviously not the latest code.

But it's a real (if inebitable) shame :(

While im not completely against free stuff, in this case it is a TRAVESTY!!! I get more for 1 hours work then this game costs, even my small brother gets more pocket money a week. People should support small developers that actually produce good games, instead of doing shit like that :(

It was unavoidable. :(

At least we will be able to play normally online while they will have to mess around with programs like Hamachi to be able to play agains each other. :-)

Since everything else has been said... way to hide his IP address. *slow clap*
Don't think about The Game.

We also know he uses comcast as an ISP! That's enough to track him down, I think!

Under the consideration that the metaserver checks the keys, not the client, I find this hard to belive. Ergo, anyone downloading the "cracked" version can't play online.

Nah, he says it won't connect to the net, and hamachi has REAL problems with it. The interface is all buggered up too, ingame, he says. I think its proberbly quite early code, or his machine is not so good.

Is that info covered by NDA?
Some people talk because they have something to say. Others talk because they have to say something.

Anyone who tried winstun (which is linked in the IV lounge forum) knows of this.
