Are you sure you played Uplink? :P

Haha, yeah I remember some of the glaring problems, but then again, that happens with every game and Defcon won't be any different. Didn't like some of the bugs in Uplink but they got worked out at least. :D

I'm considering buying it on Steam, even though I (and every beta tester) is already getting a boxed copy on the house. I suppose having the Steam edition would help me scour for bugs better.

Yeah i do like steam, its a good easy way to access alot of your games. It also updates them without the effort of checking for patches, even though i do that anyway it just makes alot of things easier. Theres no real disadvantages of using the Steam version is there?

IV gets less money, and... that's it, practically.

Apart from it being a slight resource hog when running, shoving popups in your face and updating when you may not want to update. No.
Uplink help: Check out the Guide or FAQ.
Latest Uplink patch is v1.55.

Actualy i really enjoy the steam update news, a good way of knowing whats going on by just logging on - keeps informed of upcoming game updates and releases and is extremely useful. Also dont forget the steam update had the big notice of DEFCON able to preorder! Never had any problems with update news opening midgame.

Also never had any problem of steam updating when i dont want it to. I think its a brilliant way for smaller developers to get into the market, and also for larger ones to digitally distribute games on a cheaper easier way of distribution.

ChaZ

Edit : Also it uses hardly any resources here.

Edit: Thanks, xander! Just preordered, order number 765X.

I had ordernumber 716X so that means that some 500 people have probably pre-ordered it through the IV website until now

PS: Why do you guys censor 1 or 2 numbers out of the ordernumber? Can someone malicious do something with wrong with that number?

I haven't thought of a specific way to use it maliciously, but there could be. Either way, if anyone wants to estimate how many pre-orders have been made, the last one or two digits are not important.

No option for buying off the shelf?

Unless there's some kind of movement to purchase Defcon off Introversion or steam...

Looks inexpensive enough for me to skip the demo and just get the game.

If I've understood correctly, the boxed editions are only going to be available direct from Introversion. Thus, no shelf to buy it off of.

lovely. So I either have to rely on a download which might get deleted or lost, or rely on a shipment that could also be lost in the mail.

Are you sure Defcon isn't going to retailers? That's how I found Darwinia....

Present.

I got order 7109, I think. That's 71090 Pounds into Introversion's pockets already, without even counting Steam revenue!

Well I could be mis-interpreting, but the website clearly states "This website is the ONLY place you can get this boxed copy."
