I'll tell you why: For one, it's illegal. Plain as that. Second, you'd be no better than we are if you did. In fact you'd be worse, because pirating games is not the same as taking a physical possession away or destroying years of collecting various amounts of information. I've got a lot of stuff o...

I dislike religion, but if the new pope has the moral fortitude to selflessly advise things that are emotionally repugnant to himself and those around him, all to facilitate a higher ideology, then kudos to him. I'd still like to see them all dead, but kudos all the same. Would that our politicians ...

The people that matter are those who would have bought the game, but didn't because a pirate version was available. You have just stated that this proportion is very small. As such, I must agree with archimed that you are waging a kind of moral holy war. You misread my quote. There is a very small ...

* People have a choice. If they find that software is not worth the price, they are not forced to use it. * Money is the purpose behind making commercial games. * This has nothing to do with morality. It is done for two reasons: reducing piracy through flooding, and hurting those who reduce the sale...

There are people who would purchase the game were they not able to download it. Period.

This creates lost revenue.

What we are discussing costs IV nothing.

So, there is no reason not to implement it.

A social solution will never be produced. Not by us or IV.

Technical countermeasures can certainly mitigate the lost revenue from warez.

I've yet to see a relatively unknown game popularized by piracy. I've also yet to see anybody I know purchase a game after pirating it, unless it was out of necessity to get working multiplayer. I'm fairly certain the vast majority of people out there will not purchase Darwinia if they have a chance...

In both programs, in one form another, the following is done:

Code: Select all

if (cp < 0x20)
       cp -= 0x5f;
Sure this is correct?

General guidelines: * Make a reasonable attempt at proper English. * Unless you have something very important to add, it is always better to create a new thread rather than bump a several month old one. None of the bumps in this thread fall under this category. * If you don't qualify under the forme...

Re: so?

well I want to do it anyway as this'll be my opportunity to use advanced code. What would you have me call little creaturs with intelligence approaches developed by the AI community? They won't have intelligence. At best, they will have complex behaviour. True 'AI' has never been accomplished in pr...

Re: OK

The idea is that if one person builds a successful AI on 'test bed 1' and another person builds one they claim is better on 'test bed 2' then they'll just argue and never be able to test them together. My idea is to build a new 'test bed three' that is easy to use to create any type of environment ...

All he wants is a program where different behaviours can be allowed to interact. No actual artificial intelligence is involved.

This is actually pretty easy to code. But why bother?

I'm fairly certain the DS doesn't have the power necessary to run Darwinia.
