I'm fairly certain Israel doesn't want the violence and bloodshed any more than we do- and while I don't agree with their approach, they can't just stand back and not do anything. If the US was in Israel's position, I'd guarantee we'd be doing the same thing.

Actually, Israel would probably use Greece and Athens for their "dry runs" because Athens in Greece is about as far from Israel as Tehran in Iran.
