Xander, I think to sum it all up I'd say it is the journey and not the destination. Everything on a computer is "simulated" anyway.. Heck even computers themselves are "emulators" that rely on the laws of physical systems as there prerequisites. It doesn' t matter if we are talki...

xander, I should probably clarify. I've never watched the "butterfly effect" movies and not one to mindlessly drink the kool-aid. The example commonly used is weather patterns, weather predictions, how sometimes a storm starts with just flap of a butterfly's wings. Another analogy would be...

Montyphy, you are correct this would not work out at all in traditional multiplayer. I completely forget about that as I was thinking about a vast single player mode.. But I guess for a game of Defcon's design multiplayer would be where the meat of it is at.. I can't think of any way around the prob...

Re: Screen saver

Convert it so it can work as a screen saver as well... That would be awesome. On top of converting it into a screen saver it would be even more awesome if it could display all of the people currently online (in the lobby, playing a game, joining, etc) and the meta server tracks their player name an...

While you are "nano"-managing that one unit what is happening to the rest of your forces? Will people be physically/mentally capable of macro, micro and nano managing all at once? Does the "nano"-managing happen at the same playback speed as the rest of the game i.e. the speed s...

First off, there is almost nothing in your post that hasn't been suggested before. Your post is only slightly novel, in that no one has made any of those suggestions in a while (hence your bumping a year old thread). The basic answer comes down to "Defcon is a game, not a simulation." Mor...

How about a 3d Defcon that is scale invariant? Meaning a Defcon that is the likes of Google Earth and you can switch between 2D aerial view and 3D global/spherical representations depending on zoom scale. When the player zooms all the way in the world becomes reduced to rendering as a flat 2d projec...

Re: Ground Warfare?

If you got water units, like fleets, what about ground units, like tanks, infantry, artillery, etc? Carriers can also carry tanks and infantry to move them into enemy territory! It would really help out those who like re-enacting scenarios like WWII and things of that nature. I'm not sure if anyone...

Well the original API is in C++, can't someone just code the getshots? Robin never finished it but that doesn't mean someone can't finish it for him.

Thanks for the "how to" tutorial.. BTW - I'm relatively new player to this game and late comer, I don't know why Sharewood got banned or what its history was nor the reasons, but I do find the recordings to be extremely helpful. It doesn't appear to be a bulk download method and I read on ...

I'm sure most expert players could beat the default CPU more than 90% of the time on average. Any 'expert' player should be able to beat the CPU 100% of the time. Yes you are probably right. I was just trying to be conservative on my estimate.. For games like Chess the new Rybka 4 engine can alread...

Defcon for the ipad might be a good idea if it can be easily ported. But they would have to dumb a couple of things down and streamline quite a bit as well. Probably must recode the "radar" as well, because Defcon has very poor framerates (for whatever reasons) when placing radar and/or in...

Nice, and welcome to the bot-party :) Thanks. Anyway I rechecked and reconfirmed and it seems the code of the Introversion Original Bot that Robin Baumgarten ported over to the API is actually not even on par with the default AI in the Defcon. He claims it is "modelled after the original bot i...

Barbarossa bot

I hope I'm not too late to this bot craze. Yesterday I was finally able to basically get the original bot C++ code to compile.. Then I realized that the default bot is not a conversion of the games default AI.. The games default AI always beats the "original bot" by massive amounts of poin...

Nevermind, I gots it to compile. I works fine now. Sorry I had implied there could have been something wrong with the authors instructions. I guess I'm just a totally computer illiterate person lol!
