EAM (Emergency Action Message) authentication?
How are EAMs such as the ones used on nuclear submarines secured? If its just a piece of paper with a bunch of codes on it .. doesn't that too become the weakest link? Someone has to physically handle the verification codes.. Submarines could launch nuclear strikes without that code anyway, the only...

Cause, correct me if I'm wrong, math is above all a deterministic system based on platonic ideals. Only if you discount the field of probability, which is decidedly non-deterministic. --==<snip>==-- You know, it is bullshit philosophizing like this that (a) makes me glad that I studied mathematics ...

Strategic deterrents to prevent first to be stabbed in Diplo
As a beginning player I've noticed most advanced players tend to team up and get rid of the "weaklings" first. Many times I'm the first to get kicked out of the green alliance and subsequently have to be a "spectator" for the rest of the show, and if no one is kind enough to be s...

First off, Jordy..., I must thank you for not being a complete douche nozzle. You have actually responded to something that I have said (albeit indirectly) in a courteous and thoughtful manner. Maybe you aren't a trolly git, after all. It is not THE underlying language, it is THE underlying languag...

Haha, you two both assume I have any idea what you're talking about. Bezier curve?! /me goes to Wikipedia... Also, I just went back and re-read your posts from a couple of pages back as I didn't notice the numbers you gave. Wikipedia? I find visual demonstrations are often the best. check th...

Um, I dropped the bezier curve idea. I dont wanna share , cause the basic nuke path just gives the linear distance/flighttime dependence, so you cant gain anything from it for your purposes. And usually if I share partly results, someone jumps by and finishes my work, I learned to hate that. 2nd to...

Share what you have so far? Also, I can predict within a small % the time a nuke will land, it's getting multiple nukes from different locations that's causing the problem. I really don't have much so far.. Like I already said even if I continue on my bot I'm not going to go to the trouble of timin...

Trickser was correct. at the core these are Bezier curves. There is a bit more to it than that, but I was able to verify this myself by making a simple program that sketches Bezier curves to illustrate. If only now I can fit these curves to derive what formula was used and then get the velocity form...

Yeah, I will. But still hoping I can avoid this uncomfortable situation by just being faster then you. I am making progess in figuring what the actual code is, but there wont be anything to show before its done. http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/7592/ascreenshot2010070602.th.jpg This was a wrong I...

bert_the_turtle, Correct I don't see how multiplayer would work unless it was some MMPORG and everything was set to 'real time' (or at least real time on the most nano level) but then I supposed others who have mentioned this time and again would be correct in saying that such a dragged out and prol...

That really doesn't answer any of my questions. How are you going to make a good game that includes the macro and nano levels of management? xander Simulate real life? That tells me what you want to do. It does not explain how that creates a good game. I play games as a form of escapism, i.e. to do...

...But its like the butterfly effect of chaotic systems, you never know if one small victory could turn the tide.. Chaotic dynamical systems are one of the most misunderstood pieces of mathematics in the history of the world. Mention of chaos theory and the butterfly effect by anyone who doesn't ha...
