... Darwinia doesn't need gtk at all -- it's not linked in the executable. Only the old loki installer for the original darwinia needs gtk for the installer gui. After you install the base game, gtk is never needed again, not even to install the patches, which are all command line shars.

"libgtk-1.2"... the Loki installer is old and may not gracefully find libgtk2. You could try two things depending on your comfort level with linux. 1) just install the old libgtk1.2 file from a repository. This shouldn't cause any probs with gtk2 already installed, but I can't promise it w...

... :) Excellent!! ...a few good places to find blender-python API docs -- it wasn't as easy as I thought it should be to find these pages, so maybe these links will help you: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Release_Notes/Notes246/Python_API http://www.blender.org/documentation/246PythonDoc/ http...

... :) Excellent!! Yeah, Multiwinia is just a modified Darwinia under the hood -- kinda what they wanted to make in the first place, but for lack of money, time, etc. So the shape files should be 100% the same. Imagine being able to make your own "trophy" shapes for the DGs to fight over....

Darwinia isn't 100% dead, but I guess splitting hairs is for lawyers. The exporter is still very relevant IMHO. The easier it is to use, the more people will hack the shapes in Multiwinia, which I expect to be identical format to Darwinia (it's the same engine). There might even be a resurgence of D...

It's not that there is NO further potential for stories - there is LOTS of opportunity. It's that the story threads from the original game all tie up at the end - there's no way really to neatly 'thread' your mod plot into Darwinia's existing lore, you always have to work from the ground up. You ha...

briceman2, those seem like interesting ideas for a mod, please finish it. :) I started reading your post and getting interested, and then stopped reading your post in order to avoid spoilers when I play it. :P Thanks. You can read the rest if you want -- there aren't any spoilers there -- not compa...

Darwinia has nearly no unused gameplay variety, nearly every single loose string of plot is tied off and 90% of non directly plot driven conversation is Dr Sepulveda telling you about Darwinia, so that mechanic is pretty spent after the original campaign. If you intend to use it (I didn't!) Whoever...

Seems to be a different version. Well ... If you mean that 1.4.0b9 uses a different interface on screen, that's because IV added a second interface after lots of people complained about the gestures interface being unfriendly (but cool none the less). It's been there since 1.3 on all platforms I th...

Re: Darwinia 1.2.1b not starting

Entering "darwinia" in the console takes no effekt, changing to the namend directory and entering "darwinia" in the console takes no effekt. The linux command line had one very counter-intuitive "feature". You cannot run a file from the current directory just by typing...

TGF!!! and trickfred not long ago!!! /*faints*/ The Golden Age of Darwinia is returning! (sorry, didn't mean to pun there) :) I don't think we'll ever see a new mod for Darwinia, of either type. Actually trickfred recently said he's picking up EW4 again. And I have a long & very complex mod that...

Re: Chronometer

We spent a long time looking for a fulltime writer, and worked through nearly 50 applicants until we hit on the right guy for the job – a writer named Chris Hastings , who's sample work was a league ahead of the competition. Chris and myself have been working closely together in Cambridge dur...

John has restored the Darwinia download files. I verified the 1.4.0b9 patch, but not the demo2-1.3 for linux. But give it a whirl again. Was a bad hard drive a few weeks ago.
