...read my EDIT above... cross posted :) EDIT: the XINERAMA thing has nothing to do with the mouse -- it's the multi-monitor handler for X.org and is guessing that you have only one monitor hooked up. Ignore it if darwinia renders at all (which you say it does). EDIT2: just noticed your youtube... y...

"offset value"? if it seems relevant, post the text here, including the messages before and after, if you can. I can't recall what this might be... But if windowing helps, maybe you have some new mouse driver that ubuntu is pushing into the mainstream? maybe try disabling any special mouse...

There have been a lot of probs with recent ubuntu distros... search this forum, or just skim the past dozen thread titles or so. It seems that many ubuntu probs are caused by library incompatabilities. Specifically, the system libs that are *included* with the darwinia executable are so old that the...

Unrelated, you may want to try the latest beta of the game if you haven't already. ...totally related! You need a combination of *both* the old .dats from the original CD *and* the new .dats *plus* the new executable from the 1.4.0b9 beta version (from sticky thread). Some of the .dats are not incl...

You can try to unpack the .cab files manually... they are a windows archive format. Search the net or your package repositories for an archiver that can handle cab files. The .dats are probably inside. If you are very lucky, your desktop file browser (under X) will support "diving" into .c...

you can get the original 3ds files off the IV darwinia site -- buried deep in the extras I think. but there is no free way to edit them. evidently IIRC no 3D prog can implement an importer without a license... so you are effectively SOL unless you wanna buy max. but! PaladinOfKaos coded an excellent...

uhhh, OOPS? yeah oops. sorry, I didn't read closely enough to see which direction things were moving. yeah, if IV is still vending bogus libs... good catch! You should PM John and have him add this info to the sticky if it is a general thing, or even just ubuntu. He's the linux guy at IV and really ...

Re: Crashes on specific Level

After getting this I applied the latest (i think) official patch named "darwinia-full-1.3.0". The game still ran perfectly, except for that level. As TGF mentioned, for linux, 1.4.0b9 is the equivalent for 1.4.2 and you get it from the sticky at the top of this forum. Since you didn't men...

I'm not certain, but this sounds like a symptom of a dual-arch setup -- i.e. the way they have to maintain separate versions of libs for 32b and 64b apps. Older distros had probs with keeping the load paths straight and the lib names consistent. I thought that had been solved years ago -- 64b is sev...

...yup I saw that, but was that *everything* from the command line forward? 'cause if so, darwinia crashed really early. Usually there's SDL and X setup info befor the game even starts the intro... . SDL Version: Compiled against 1.2.9, running with 1.2.8 Initialising SDL Audio Frequency: 22050 Form...

Well, that's not much to go on (not your fault)... do you have a dual core processor? IF so, you must assign darwinia to run on a single core since it's not mult-core safe. There are several threads about this, but see the very end of the previous thread and the poster lists the linux command for do...

There are a few distros which refuse to follow the gnu Path of Purity. There's a tiny one called SAM linux which supposedly includes both ATI & nVidia proprietary drivers. It's based on PClinuxOS, but the docs are horrible. I'd feel safer if I could read German. There's also Mandriva One which c...

Well I haven't moved to 2.6 or to 64b yet so I don't have any experience. But there are several threads about getting darwinia to run under 64b linux. You may hve a library conflict somewhere -- as far as darwinia is concerned. It was NOT written with 64b in mind. But I think some people have gotten...

Hi, I'm going on no sleep for 48hrs, so if some of this makes no sense... :) Darwinia has probs with dual core procs... you can search the forums for posts about it in any ol' OS. Basically you need to assign the game process to only one core. I don't know how you do this under linux -- my old athlo...

It's hard to know what the hell he's talking about: he seems to say that the listed pref file shows no mod system because some forum post said it might help. My working hypothesis is: mod crashies bad --> steam gets upset --> darwinia boom! ... But I know next to nothing about steam, except that coa...
