Expired: nihilesthetics.info: Archived Here...

nihilesthetics2, your great mod info site has "recently expired". Most of the pages are still in google's cache (although the text on many pages needs to be selected in order to be visible). None of the pages show up in archive.org. It would be a shame to lose all this info, especially if ...

I'm using 1.4.0b9, just like you. Well I probably shouldn't have used that as an example. Sloppy of me. I fired up Stricken under AAA and the reds just came to the rim of the hill but no further. The green DGs kept their cannons without any help. And the squad and console were untouched by the reds....

I don't really have an answer for you, but maybe the installer is 32bit? I think gtk is only needed for the installer GUI. Do you have libgtk 32b also? Or is that a unified 32/64b library? Your problem may have something to do with how the distro handles aliasing 32b and 64b libraries. Check your pa...

AFAIK the windows version doesn't have that, I've never needed it anyway... :P Well, try it under linux sometime. Just run Darwinia from a terminal window. You can see messages about level creation, unit instantiation, level exit / enter and mission and game file saves, and more. The mission save i...

... on the topic of Windows modding, is there a way to run Darwinia so you can see the server messages while it's running? Under linux, the console collects all the Darwinia messages (and errors). But when I start Darwinia from the WinXP console I get nothing -- the game detaches from the console an...

I hear you. For whatever reasons, IV's engine is best matched to the linux environment. I really don't want to stoke a Windows vs. Linux controversy. I'm not religious that way. I *am* curious what linux does to make IV games so much faster -- possibly that IV codes against a lot of open source APIs...

Sorry for all the exclamations, but you just saved me from wasting LOTS of time trying to tweak my Windows setup -- I was NOT looking forward to it! I already spent hours and hours enduring Update...

Windows vs. Linux Performance?? Please Help...

Hi, Does anyone have any experience running mods on BOTH linux and Windows? Preferably dual-boot on the same machine. Does Darwinia Windows always run slower than Darwinia Linux on the same machine? I've been developing a mod under linux for a few months, and I just installed Darwinia for Windows. S...

Level Names to Avoid, Start Pylons, & ILB

UPDATE: this behavior does occur under Windows patch 1.42, so I'll guess it also occurs for the latest Mac version. Mods which share level names with the main game will experience strange errors about UniqueIDs being non-unique for buildings that don't even exist in the mod. I've figured out what th...

Another feature request: add a flag to SafeAreas to be able to chose the direction of the inequality for the comparison. Currently it seems SafeAreas follow these rules: teams 0 2 : online if pop >= n team 1 : online if pop <= n Neither rising red, nor falling green populations can be detected. If a...

Good point! check the original game. The Yard actually uses both: a team 0 SA=1 to check for Armour production, and a team 1 SA=5 to check for Ant destruction. Interesting that the team 1 SA counts the hidden Anthill populations. But if the SA comparisons are inequalities (versus exact counts), then...

SafeArea Behavior is Asymmetric by Team??

Hi, this is a question to experienced modders: xander, trickfred, TGF, and anyone else who has played a lot with SafeAreas. My own tinkering suggests SAs behave differently for teams 0 & 2 versus team 1. I've read through the problems people have had with SAs, and I haven't seen any mention of t...

... just a followup. The scheme above can also be achieved for serial mission swaps -- at the expense of an extra hop between levels during resets. I'll just sketch it. Using serial mission swaps instead of serial map swaps has two benefits. First no "jump gate" level is needed and the pla...

Serial Map & Mission Swaps for Resettable Objectives

Hi again, I have been working on a level which asks the player to set an 8-bit combination in order to move to the next level. I've used info from xander, TGF, trickfred and others, but I've come across a problem & found a solution which I haven't seen mentioned before. Probably only a handful o...

Unrelated to ILB... xander, did you know all your paperclip shape fragments are all inside out? Did you do that on purpose for the lighting effects? I noticed because I have those fragments scaled up and layed out in a fragment catalog grid. Forgot to mention it till now. Very impressive hand edited...
