Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I can't see how anyone can get models "into" Darwinia without a dedicated .shp file exporter. Maybe some of these "printscreen" utilities can reach into the OpenGL pipeline and rip the 3D data for models... and maybe, just maybe, they can do th...

Just FYI, that support page lists 1.4.2 as being available for linux... but the linked linux page contains only 1.3.0... and it still seems you have to go to the linux darwinia furum to get 1.4.0b9. If there really is a 1.4.2 for linux, YEA! \o/ ... if not, maybe you should change tha support page f...

or import it into Sketchup, that's what I personally want. That's not a crime, is it? Nope, certainly not, and no one here is persecuting you, certainly not me. Nice of you to finally tell us what you're really after. I still think you're in the wrong forum, but that's just my opinion, and who know...

The Dassault 3D printscreen utility is probably a very good method to EXPORT 3D models from Darwinia as long as Darwinia uses DirectX or OpenGL. Darwinia does target OpenGL... but I'm still guessing you haven't played the game. Models in Darwinia are very low poly. Getting model info OUT of Darwini...

Hi Maggy, you seem to be a little lost. I'm guessing google brought you here with some keywords. You do realize, I hope, that this is a forum for discussing mods for a computer video game? Have you played Darwinia? You didn't mention it once in your post. The only reason any of us have tinkered with...

Cannon Fodd- wait, no. Along the "Fodder" lines, how 'bout "Fodder Flies", where "Flies" plays on both the verb and the noun. Also rhymes with "Everybody dies." And you could decrease the simulated gravity so DGs fly farther when they get blown up but don't d...

When Bits Fly (When Bits Die)

Bloody Bits

Organ Grinder

Decimation (in the sense of DSP = culling)

Redshirt Greenshirt (see Wikipedia entries for both words) ...almost has a Dr. Suess rhythm to it :)

Re: A digital nightmare, Part 1

We're aiming for a fast, brutal and hilarious multiplayer wargame, set in the world of Darwinia. I think you'll get better / more ideas if you tell us a little about how players win rounds of the game. Is it capture the flag? or annhiliate all opponents? or timed survival? or what? Or are there man...

Yeah, the editor crashes first then if you're lucky tells you the problem. Very frustrating, especially when you're just beginning. If you are placing a pre-existing shape as a StaticShape there is no reason to extract anything to your mod. Just specify the filename (with extension) and the game eng...

You must leave a copy of all the original files where you found them. Extra copies & modified copies in your mod directories will supercede the originals. But the originals must remain in place. Only modify files under your mod directory -- not the originals or you will end up reinstalling Darwi...

Sounds like one system has the mouse buttons mapped differently? Darwinia has two different mouse modes. When you're in a level, and you hit ESC to get the game menu, you can then use the right button (or center on my mouse) and the WASD keys to pan the camera. In this mode the camera stays fixed du...

Why not compare the CPU usage %age for sounds between versions. I'm not sure how to do that reliably. Under Linux, Darwinia grabs nearly 100% CPU when started. Linux multitasking is responsive enough that a windowed Darwinia doesn't make the desktop *feel* like it's got 100%, but it always does. I ...

UPDATE & SANITY CHECK: Windows 1.41 - 29fps Ubuntu linux 1.40b9 - 60fps Windows 1.5xbeta - 21fps ... No one should take away the false impression that Linux 1.4.0b9 is 2x faster that Windows 1.42 *across the board*. It isn't. I have moved another taxing test level from Linux to Windows and it ru...

Bug? 1.4.2 SpawnPopLocks Interact Strangely

Hi, this is a bug report (maybe). I've noticed that non-overlapping SpawnPopulationLocks can shut down each other's AISpawnPoints. This may be a strange feature to facilitate Biosphere, or it may be a bug. It can make modding difficult and unpredictable. If the following describes the intended behav...

No prob. Thanks for the quick reply! Here's a few cut and pastes from google cache. These are the three pages I found most informative. If you want to fish out other texts, just google "site:nihilesthetics.info" and click on the "cached" links. Like I said, some pages don't have ...
