Nukes launched at Cairo from South Africa, South Asia or North America often have to pass through someone else's air defenses.

Noticed this yesterday. I didn't think much of it, but it's a little annoying if you want to send the fighters scouting beyond that initial range because you have to manage them after they launch, rather than being "fire and forget".

I believe that the best attitude to take when entering into an alliance in a game where it has not been specifically made clear that the alliance with the most points wins is to simply not take it personally if you get stabbed. Something I learnt from Diplomacy (the board game, not the game mode) is...

Personally, I think the arc looks cool and I think it should be there. The problem is the arc is supposed to simulate altitude and instead its simulating ground track. Which allows it to be shot down while going "over" a country. I think the suggestion of making them unattackable until ba...

You can play with up to 6 people in a game. You have unrestricted online play (you're not restricted to 2 demo clients per game). You unlock all the other awesome game modes like Speed DEFCON and Diplomacy. There're probably more, but those are the major ones.

Hey, the discussion's already finished; no need to snap. We're done here. I too would like to hear about the map-maker program.

There's a mod made for this:

By default, this will not advertise, and also starts the game as paused.

I think in a couple of days we could make a stickied index thread covering various areas with links to their respective discussion threads as a game guide.

Ideally we need people to write newbie guides for various things.

That makes the tactic all the more viable. Of course, that would require a lot more micromanagement (less than perfect for shorter games, especially as you're probably better off micromanaging the carriers themselves/other fleets.

There is nothing in DEFCON independent of the players. Are there dice in DEFCON? No, there aren't. There is nothing random in DEFCON whatsoever. Actually, there is. It's not 100% assured that a single fighter missile will kill a bomber. It's also not 100% assured that a single AA missile will kill ...

4 groups of 3 subs, so that if one gets caught by a carrier group they aren't all dead. 2 groups of 2 carriers to find and depth charge enemy subs near my coast. Optionally split into single carrier groups dependant on continent/opponents. 2 groups of 4 battleships - carrier hunters/coastal bombard ...

I repeat once again: there is no pattern that will give you more than 50% of wins. The human factor (which would try to exploit a strategy deviating from a perfectly randomized sequence) has nothing to do with the game itself; basically, it just depends if you're a good player of rock, paper, sciss...
