I was sitting at work trying to find inspiration on an entirely different subject, I failed. I did however come up with a number of ideas for DEFCON wallpapers, here's the two I've bothered to finish as of now, http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9696/defcon1280x800chessui8.th.png Let me tell you th...

Some good recommendations here. As for this child of the Cold War, I just put on the classic 80's station over at Accuradio.com. :D

Yeah, I put more than a few hours into that game! The only thing that used to annoy me was the fact that the AI cheated like a bandit! I remember on more than one occassion that I would have the AI reduced to just a handful of cities when an entire naval armada would appear out of nowhere and destro...

Looks like the experts can't even agree on what to disagree about:

This one is still up in the air (a misfire seems like a good guess if it was a nuke test).

A saved game feature could only be use when playing the CPU When playing the CPU, you can control what speed you want. Therefore CPU games are usally no longer the half and hour. Ergo, saving would be pointless. I think your logic is a little flawed. :D I can tell you that even my small solo games ...

Anyone saying speed up noob to me will be greeted with permanent slowest speed available. You know, once I was playing a solo game with three CPU opponents at 1x speed when some guy logged on as a spectator and said...you guessed it! "Speed up please!" Well, at least he said ...

In the game of chess, the black pieces can't jump higher then the white ones. LOL! Couldn't have said it better! By giving certain units enhanced capability, you are decreasing the importance of clever strategy and tactics on the part of the player. As Spacemonkey alluded to, when all units are equ...

Complete agreement, Kuth! I'm a wargamer at heart and have played many a realistic simulation of warfare, but DEFCON is clearly not meant to be that. DEFCON is a fun game that captures the ESSENCE of nuclear warfare without overwhelming the gamer with too much realism. In many ways, DEFCON is the nu...

Here, here! I definitely think DEFCON needs a save game function! I am tired of losing games because I don't have the time to play them to completion!

Some of what you suggest is reminiscient of the 1989 game BALANCE OF POWER by Chris Crawford. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balance_of_Power_(computer_game) In many ways, this game could be considered the prequel to DEFCON as it simulated the politics that could lead to nuclear war. I owned this game...

Have you ever played HARPOON or DANGEROUS WATERS (two games that fit well with DEFCON)?

Wow! I found many of the posts quite interesting! I am curious as to whether or not the NKs did detonate a bomb. According to what I have read, the resulting detonation has been rather small, something that could be duplicated from simple TNT. I have heard that any nuclear detonation produces a neut...

I, for one, like the idea of spy planes. Now, as I have mentioned elsewhere, this idea would need to be carefully playtested first, but I find fighters to have much too short legs to do any effective scouting. Long-range spy planes would fill the scouting role nicely, especially if they were *very* ...
