Defcon, like Chess or Go, is very easy to learn, but quite hard to master. Defcon is a very simple game in terms of mechanics, but demonstrates how simple mechanics can create deep, complex strategy. The game is not hard to play, but it is hard to play well, in that you have to keep track of many t...

I am using a four year old PC and the game runs just fine. So I would imagine that as long as you have a PC about the same age or younger, with a decent P4 processor and memory, you should be okay.

Fell behind with the narrative: ========================= Day 7: Sunday, October 21 On the 21st, Kennedy met with his top advisors to further discuss the missiles in Cuba. I'd have to check on this again, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the last time in history that the US was close to/at Defcon 2. In House of War by James Carrol, he cites some recently declassified documents that detail Richard Nixon's "madman policy," which involved nuclear posturing (by fl...

Re: Passive Sonar

What exactly does this do? I know active sonar lets subs attack enemy subs and other naval units, but what does passive sonar do? From the manual: "Submarines have two modes: Passive Sonar and Active Sonar. In passive mode the sub will try to remain as quiet as possible, slipping by enemy flee...

Fact is that the more accurate you are, the smaller your bomb yield has to be. The US Titan II had a bomb of 5mt, but it was far less accurate, so you needed that. It had to be able to level the city nomatter how far away it eventually landed. Current warheads don't have to be nearly as big, 'cause...

Re: Question: Nuke Yields?

I think I read somewhere that silo nukes have a more powerful warhead than other nukes. Can anyone confirm this? What about sub and bomber nukes, are they the same yield? If silo nukes are more powerful, but you always need 3 hits to take out a silo, do silo nukes do more damage to silos (in terms ...
