IV have always shipped overseas before (with Darwinia and Uplink), I don't see why Defcon would be any different. Though I'm not sure about copies in local shops.

The blackbox would appear in $PWD, though I'd imagine it'd just complain about the missing shape file.

The mod issue seems strange; I've not played around with the system enough to work anything out.

You'd set up dual-boot, which most distros do automatically now. The one caveat is that Windows doesn't even comprehend that it may not be the only OS on the system, so that has to be installed before Linux.
