I'm running Steam in Linux, under WINE. I have pre-ordered and pre-loaded DEFCON through Steam (in WINE). No clue if it'll run yet, though I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Defcon runs in wine, but, uh, you can't join any games - I think there must be an unimplemented networking function in wine. Thi...

Re: Site suggestion/s

You could goto Tools -> Options -> Tabs -> Tick "Force windows that open new window to:" -> Choose your option. I'm pretty sure that advanced tab options are only present as of 2.0 (though I could be wrong; I know it wasn't in 1.0 except via another obscure option used to enable those set...

Re: Site suggestion/s

Come now, can you change this? Surely I'm not the only one who uses Firefox? You can change this for all sites, via a somewhat obscure setting. ⋅ Go to about:config. ⋅ Filter "browser.link.open_newwindow". ⋅ Double click on it, and set it to either 1, to alwa...

Given the existence of this screenshot (which is almost 16:9), I would imagine it's fairly flexible (which all games should be, really).

That's beside the point; unless IV were to pay Valve for every boxed copy of Defcon registered on Steam, I can't see any good business reason for Valve to allow people to do so.

Whilst Denmark is an expensive place, DVD-ROM drives surely can't be THAT expensive? With my very basic knowledge of Danish, I could easily be missing something critical, but kelkoo.dk seems to be showing an IDE DVD-ROM drive for 143DKK (~£13), with what I assume is shipping at 49DKK (~£4.50). I sup...

Of course! If you ignore the armed police running towards you.

(Teh dodgy intarweb point obviously only applies to single player vs. the computer.)

For some people it could be (e.g. those with slow, unreliable Internet connections, or those who have to use the Internet via public terminals).

(It's way too late for the Linux version to be betad and added to the CD image. Unless you people have been betaing it secretly *shakes fist*. The binaries will be a free download though.)

DVD cases > boxes. I preferred boxes around 2000, when DVD cases started coming in, then I suddenly realised how vulnerable cardboard is, and how handy DVD cases are to store and use. Also, boxes imply jewel cases, and jewel cases are crap - I've had to replace my Uplink jewel case a few times over ...

<complete speculation, which is probably completely wrong>I doubt Defcon would use Steam-specific authentication, but would likely use the same authentication system for each platform to reduce complexity. Steam may perhaps automatically set up a key on install.</complete speculation, which is proba...

I'd imagine it would be like the Darwinia situation; you'll probably be able to do it, but it won't be supported by IV.

Of course, we won't know for sure until both Defcon and the Linux bins are out, and someone tries it out.

I wouldn't say 100% when you factor in things like CC processing charges. But still a lot more than Steam.</pedantic arse>
