For those in the US, Imperial College London is a hole, where people who want to study IT but can't get into York go. I almost* challenge you to a duel to the death - Imperial's better than York :P Girls are easy though.  Girls? At Imperial? You've got to be kidding. 70:30 male:female,...

I don't think it would violate the agreement to add protection so that you require either the SF world.dat or the original IV world.dat. The reason it checks that file is because it's nice and large, making casual distribution fairly impractical. I assume. Actually, I have no idea. Interesting quest...

... yeah, sorry. Moment of supidity. Could we not take this into account with the devmods though? Check that it matches one of two world.dat files? I haven't got the code to hand, but I don't think it's that complex.

Darksun, just out of curiosity (and I know I've been away for a long, long time):

How do you know?

Meh. Feeling pedantic. It's actually a section of the Uplink EXE, IIRC... hence the 00 (null) codes, etc.

Just a thought - has everyone forgotten the Nakatomi challenge? And the gamebibles? They were an attempt to bring devious thinking into the "real world". But what is real, anyway? :P Seriously though - in The Good Old Days™, people worked together to solve the challenges that Chris came up with. Thi...

Yes, there have been hundreds of "Uplink 2" or "Uplink Online" attempts. And all (to my knowledge) have so far failed. Perhaps this one will succeed? Only time will tell. To misquote the creators of the RSA encryption method (or that's who I'm going to attribute this quote to anyway): "You have an i...

Nobody who has ever attempted it has the conviction or the knowhow to actually achieve it. Darkshine, I have to agree with you. Now that I'm partway through the second year of a Computing degree at one of the top UK universities, I've come to realise that I really didn't know how to code at all. Ce...

Uplink LAN Creator

Hey all, I've decided to make one of my periodic reappearances here - to remind you all that you do miss me, deep down. Somewhere. For some reason. How've things been in the past few years? Met the IV team earlier this (calendar) year when they came to my uni (and their ex-uni... go Imperial!) to gi...

Doing it too quickly isn't strictly a bug... it "types" the username/password into the box. So if you don't let it finish, don't be surprised. Alternatively, turn off "button animations" and lose some eye candy to increase speed. But why do it fast anyway?

:o i'm shocked ! What about all the real events? The ones where the community used to actually work together? The cracking of GameBible 1? The cracking of GameBible 2? (Anybody remember all the teamwork that went into that? I must confess to having joined shortly before GB2, and being one of the fir...

Hey - just had a fantastic idea... why not create a program (as we have the source ;)) to trawl through a base savegame and either remove or convert non-compatible features? Each developer could then have the source to this, and they would modify it accordingly, to produce a "clean" userfi...

No you can't use cheats any more - they were removed in v1.2, if I remember rightly. And just as well - the game's not fun with them, just like any other game!
