If it only reads DVDs then try installing a program called Isobuster the program was made to try to save the data on a scratched disc. You can still try deleting the DVD-Rom and having windows reinstall it.

Actually, you can save it easier by just copying the folder instead of just a .usr file. just to make sure it´s ok, and i´m not sure because the copy of uplink that i have has an autosave option just by pressing F10 during the game. but the game crashes everytime i use it.
