On note of mining, it is possible for prison to be situated next to a quarry. But again, it's not just wherever you designate a yard. More likely it would have to be an on-map resource that's possible.

I believe that when given free time, the prisoner will keep sleeping until its day time. It does make some sense due to circadian rhythm, people naturally want to sleep when it gets dark. I would love to have a "regime" that simply trigger all prisoners to wake up instead of having an hour...
