Cheating the system

To get more money without more risk, simply get MinSec prisoners and reclassify them as MaxSec. They earn you $150 each, and they still have their nonviolent traits.

This should probably be fixed.

Well, I disagree with the statement that a low intelligence level would mean not running away from a guard while breaking the rules. Running is the base response, a cunning person would try to erase evidence of their crime. Traits already exist in the game - "cunning" is one, and prisoners...

Scratch the above, workshops have been nerfed so badly it won't help you at all. Not worth the money to build.

Get prisoners in, house as many as possible, cut spending to a bare minimum and try to make positive cash. And a tree farm.

So your power fails. Aesthetically, it's not pleasing, but there are no actual consequences. Yeah, exactly. You want to go further with shotgun realism, they get stopped instantly by doors or walls, whereas a rifle could (maybe) pierce a doorway.
