Protection of this sort should come out of the box with the game. They can't predict every potential manner of griefing ahead of time, can they, nor can they devote every hour of every day to defeating all forms of misbehaviour in their last game while they're trying to make new games. Maybe IV wil...

My high school did the same thing to me 15 years ago, so I believe you.

You lack any form of write permissions on anything bar a floppy disk? That can happen in many setups. NeoThermic Heh, well if I were ever that desperate to play, I'd try working around that before running from a floppy, but I jumped through more hoops than that to hide Wolf3D on the machines in hig...

The longest reads are the initial ones. Defcon doesn't slowdown much once running, but Flopcon does take an age to start up. Just out of curiousity, wouldn't it be faster to just dump the floppy to the HD first and delete it after if you needed to? I mean, what possible reason would you really have...

The EuroBlitz/SuiSilos/[Feud's original, cumbersome title I forget just now], or whatever you wanna call it, has turned into a Zerg Rush. Seems to have all suddenly become the weapon of choice in most any random 4-6 player pub I've wandered into lately. I see it failing--a lot--because more often th...

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice used to keep a record of executed inmates' last meals on its official website. It's morbidly amusing. For example: Gerald Mitchell: 1 bag of assorted Jolly Ranchers Odell Barnes, Jr.: Justice, Equality, World Peace Delbert Teague, Jr.: None. Last minute he de...

It would be hardcore if somebody tested travel times from and to every major city and likely silo placement area, individually, and programmed a simple calculator with that data. Basically you'd have like four dropdown fields to easily select your territory/launch point and enemy territory/target po...

Because as xander pointed out once, concentrating your fire doesn't increase your chances of killing the unit (there are no hitpoints, only % chance) enough or as much as spreading your fire will/can. I don't remember the specifics. That's not exactly true. Concentrating fire on a single target doe...

It would be handy to disable the music and background audio independently of other, more critical noises like launch klaxons, and especially the comms beeping with new messages. I usually have Winamp going with the game sound down to keep it from interfering, but it's all-or-nothing, and the drunker...

That bomber wave was the turning point; I meant to launch them on cities and see what I could scout with them, but right as they got in range, your silos opened, and I said, "Well, shit." Judging by Birch's screenshots (and comments), we missed each other so closely so often, a little sere...

Like xander says, it could only work without cheese before Defcon 4. Maybe you could have a limited (like 4 or 5) number of "do-overs" in case you fuck something up, but otherwise, just pay attention during placement and you'll be alright.

Blue units and text on a blue field can definitely start to mess with your eyes after a while. You can't alter the unit colors, but what you can do is change the scheme's background to darker/neutral shades. Turn the water dark gray and the land black, for example, and everything will stand out more...

It was a close one, but for a good while it looked like it was gunna be a lot closer than it ended up being. Creator forgot to mention he and Demo spent on around 10 minutes in real time towards the end, trying to scheme out who would hit what so as not to waste missiles.

I guess I'm in. I'd say something clever but I'm not really in the mood. I did one with Ice Cream vs. Creator and Demosthenes and I soaked up all the missiles for Ice Cream, and we won IIRC.
