I don't know why you have those user and group ids but uplink doesn't need them to run properly. I would recommend changing the user and group ids to your username if you are the only user playing uplink or use a common group id if others do. Go to the uplink directory. chown -R username * chgrp -R ...

*shrug* Don't know, don't care. Frenchfrog's post about gdb was pretty much useless if he was fairly new to linux so I figured I'd post to help. In any case, I'm done with this one.

Yeah that's how I eventually found it. The problem is that if you run it in full screen mode, it crashes out without making that file even if you run it with +game_debugstart. I had to turn on windowed mode as well to get the debug log. Not really difficult, I just finally got the time today to sit ...

I found a bug in the startup script for uplink. It causes the game to try and start up, then immediately crashes back to the desktop. For now, the easiest way to play it is to copy the .dat files where uplink is installed to the lib directory in the same location. I'll likely get around to fixing th...

Ok after I did some basic debugging, I found the problem. The .dat files location aren't being included in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH. The easiest way to fix it is to just move them all into the lib directory where you have uplink installed. Yeah I know... Bug reports... I'll make a post there for anyone e...

I've been having the same problem as NotPhil. I've also got an AMD Athlon 64 on Ubuntu 6.10. Running an ATI X800 video card. At least I know its not ati's drivers this time. I ran the 1.54 update from a 1.00 version and get the exact same crash. No debug.log files anywhere.
