I sorted out the problem by installing the program using the cd which is version 1.31, then installing the patch.

I can't patch the game. I have version 1.47 downloaded from Introversion, when I try to patch the game from a clean install the install button in the patch is blanked out. Does anyone have any advice to fix this?
