I like it, but I think that instead of it being based entirely on a new need, Community, it should also incorporate other needs. Safety comes to mind - someone who feels unsafe will want to join a gang because it offers security to its members (and, conversely, a prison with a large gang problem wil...

To anyone who find people leaving when they see that they are defeated irritating: Why? I find such behaviour both a) logical and b) the honourable thing to do. If you're defeated, there's no need to prolong your own suffering or anything. Make sure that you're really defeated before you leave, thou...

You can easily modify Diplomacy so that it takes a lot less time. Almost every time I've played Diplomacy, we've managed that. The trick is to go to a specific, pre-set year. We usually go to 1907, with 10- or 15-minute Diplomacy periods. This takes just an evening, or approximately five hours. On t...

And that is why I strongly prefer playing as Africa or one of the Eurasian powers. The Americas, and especially NA, never seem to work well for me with bombers. And bombers are without doubt my favourite unit. Also, since I haven't seen it mentioned in the thread (I might just have missed it). After...

Heh yeah i know, but if they wanted to be extremely stringent they would have knocked me as well as im sure other people out of the game. You can't be that stringent I believe. What about people (like myself) playing on a laptop ? Granted, I've only played from two non-home locations, but that give...

Actually, I think there's less luck involved in multiplayer games then there are in 1vs1s. I define luck here as having random variables on your side. This might sound weird at first, but bear with me. In multiplayer, what is perceived as good or bad luck is really human psychology. This can be mani...

No, but then they're not the players I suggested for my sceneario. That one was basically stolen from the board game of Diplomacy (an excellent game, which I'd consider a better analogy for Defcon than chess), where it's supposedly quite common that the best players are knocked out of tournaments ea...

The second one actually makes sense... Demosthenes: 392.2 - 121.4 = 270.8 (MOR): 391.4 - 121.9 = 269.5 You forgot the collateral. Still, the numbers give Demosthenes the victory by 0.7 of a point (269 vs 268.3). Strange, because he only has 268 points on the scoreboard. There was no collateral in t...

I like your design Torp, I think it captures the essence of Defcon much better :) Thank you. One possibility I'm thinking of is moving the Strategic World Targets to the back of the shirt. http://folk.ntnu.no/thomasue/Pics/DEFCON/DEFCON-tshirt-Torp-StratWorldTargets-v2-textOnBack.jpg Like that. I s...

I like the basic idea behind #1, with the LAUNCH DETECTED and triangle, though the chat text, mouse pointer and outline of Africa detracts from the design. Of the fan-made designs, I like Rimmers Feud-style. I'll see if I can dish up a couple of designs myself, later. I have some ideas. Oh, btw, any...
