I always look at a plane or bomber being shot down as a tactical nuke hit. In a real world war, with lots of runup time to de-mothball some of the old ordinance, most air to air missiles would be nuclear, as would many SAM missiles. Same with ship combat; nearly all ship to ship fighting would be do...

I agree -- this was very well done. :) Though caveat -- you end up playing some LOONNNNG games with this mod, since it takes so long for the naval units to get anywhere. But quite fun.

It depends what mode i'm playing, in survivour, subs are not as import, so i buy more silos to defend my cities, and airbases (the have 5 bombers are 10 nukes each, all for only 2 credits!) I think subs can be important, if you have a good idea who's likely to end up on top by the end of the game. ...

1. I live in Norway. No cities in the entire scandinavian peninsula (at least not in standard mode). In reality, though, Norway is NATO. 750kt airburst targets would likely be: Bodø main airstation Orland Air Station (an AWACS is based here) Andøya Air Station Mathopen Naval Base NATO JWC at Jatta ...

Try living in San Diego.....I'm surrounded by targets. Then again mab the Ageis can shoot em down. Nah, they're only designed to defend against air to ship and ship to ship missiles. There is no current way to destroy inbound warheads once they exit the boost stage. The U.S. is working on a ground-...

What the hell are jammy dodgers? Also, from the manual: "Despite what some anti-nuclear exchange activists and Communists tell you, stockpiling food will not help you... but your government can." ... I would like to know what the disadvantage would be to having a concrete root cel...

Warning: VTP

I hate bitching about people, but I thought I'd give gamers here a heads up. For the most part, almost all Defcon servers I've played on have been great; however, I've had a few very bad experiences on a server run by "VTP". The games are usually called "Veterans Day 3x3" or some...

I should mention that I tried this last night in a game where the host had set the "variable unit count" to yes. This "beam attack" or blitz is positively hilarious when used with 9 bomber bases lined up in a row. I was SA and used it against the US. 45 bombers in a east-west lin...

Runs fine on my PIII 1ghz with 512MB of RAM and an 8MB GeForce 2 card. You should be okay. :) Don't play any BigWorld 6 player games, though.

The only problem with this tactic is that if you get an early lead, people tend to hit you hardest. This can be particularly bad in Survivor mode, but can hurt a lot in Default, as well. Even assuming that you can hit Europe and the USSR with this tactic, and you level London, Leningrad, Moscow, an...

The Blitz

I hesitate to explain this one, because it's A: so simple and B: so effective, and I'd hate to start losing all the time. ;) Admittedly, it's a bit risky, but when playing a default scoring game, it's well worth the effort. Simply put, line all of your airbases up in a horizontal line if you are goi...

Probably flying out my front door in a frantic bid to get on the interstate and a good 15 miles away from the airbase and the state capitol (which I live 3 blocks from) before the first salvo comes in. Assuming my car isn't fried by the EMP. Then I get to try to figure out how to make it the hour we...

Threads is the definitive nuclear war movie.

FWIW, it can be watched in its entirety (or downloaded in much higher quality via Google Video) here:

The concept is real, but the Russians never thought to build one.
