elitehaus
The power of physical proximity cannot be underestimated. The very best demo prods have all come out of 'elitehaus' - where a bunch of sceners rent a house for 2 weeks and crank out something awesome, or just come up with the tech and ideas, then work on content for a year or so afterwards. FR's .th...

graphics are for demos and games for small children
Honestly. When I was young, I'd get games to see the new effects and lighting... now I just watch the demoscene releases on pouet.net and see the effects 2-4 years before everyone else. Or I code and make them better in my own demos! I can't watch the same effect for more than 30 seconds without get...

the game doesnt use real 3d effects at all so why opengl? OpenGL and DX are both valid choices for 2d graphics, since PCs don't have sprite memory like the c=64 or consoles. Moving and smoothly scaling sprites and alpha blending are basically free if you're using either. Companies have been optimis...

Yesterday, while readying a game, a spectator repeatedly asked the host to kick a demo player so the spectator could take the slot. When the host refused, the spectator started swearing and threatening to make the server crash. Shortly after the game started the server became unstable as the host s...

NEW MOD - Banana-Shaped
At last, Monty Python and the Holy Grail gives us a solution to the problems of: Why do missiles arc the way they do? Why can't they go over the poles? What shape -is- the world, anyway? It's not spherical, cylindrical, or even toroidal. It's banana-shaped! http://defcon.s4l.dk/downloads/mods/banana...

I have been in a few games where someone goes afk and left it on real time, as well as a few games where a player who was losing set it on real time to grief other players. Something that would solve the realtime+afk problem would be an activity monitor. Just automatically move people's time level ...

You mean like survivor mode but with 0 as start? Or make 2 score negative for losing citizens and only 1 score for killing? No, that would be bad. I'd hate it if survivor mode were the only way to play. I usually win by playing genocidal in late-game. I'm no pacifist :j I just think the horror elem...

Final scores should add up to a number less than zero
In games where two players each destroy about half of each other's population, they still have a positive score. Since one of them really just lost by the least amount, the scores should reflect that.
Or maybe that would make the whole experience just too depressing and morbid.
