I guess the thing that causes the blackscreen is the text that is scrolling down at the very beginning. You can disable this... something like menu effects, or special effects off of the options or tools submenu. Also, do you guys have the latest version of directx from microsoft? (9.0c, I believe....

LOST you suck... Well, you've got a leg up on me mate... I wasn't aware it was a competition. What do you win? Another inch on the ol' e-peen? Trick: I haven't demanded any changes... your reading comprehension is clearly lacking. Also, take your own advce? Neo: That's not what I said, nor what I i...

I have a feeling this, and a complete lack of patience on the part of the mods are somehow interconnected, I just can't put my finger on it. The mods are impatient? How do you figure? Can you cite an instance of a mod being impatient? Can you even name the mods?[size=0]Hint: There are no mods. Ther...

Well, I know I don't like joining servers with nobody on them... So I usually add a temporary AI or two, and then 'flash' the ready button (hit it once, wait a half sec, hit it again to cancel). Dunno if that does anything, or if it's just a coincidence that people join fairly soon after. Then you k...

Lol PC-Chillin'. Your computer was chillin' so much, it wasn't letting the traffic through...

Re: Defcon + Proxy + Proxy Bypass = no game?!

I need to use this due to my college firewall not allowing any gaming traffic. ... I can play other Steam games fine (DOD:S, CS:S, etc.) and I can play other games fine (Guild Wars), so I know it's not my proxy. If your proxy blocked gaming traffic then those wouldn't work. Hell, ours won't even le...

I found my Defcon folder in SteamApps, but there is no "preferences.txt" in there. If you've uninstalled and then reinstalled the game, but never got to the main menu(ish), then there probably won't be one. What the hell is going on? How do I access my sound card? Please help me! Erm, thr...

It's the server's upstream you need to worry about... if he can't send the data fast enough, you get lag / drops.

Ever notice the sudden difference in responsiveness sometimes as soon a defcon 3 breaks, and everyone starts shooting? That's why.

Re: issues with 'receiving'

Often when i connect to a server, i can connect very quickly but then i have the receiving bar which will go up one or two parts and then start flowing backwards with the time remaining timer going up. The host has shitty upstream bandwidth. The handshake (connect) is fairly light, but once you sta...

Geez, I'm going to look like an idiot... Turns out my dad and I falsely accused Defcon of being the problem . We just expected it to be since he got broken records while I was hosting.. well maybe that's cause I'm hosting half of my day atm :D Last afternoon he told me he'd also been unable t...

Are you guys all making sure that the port forwarding range you specify includes: Connection established to MetaServer, listening on Port 5008 ??? If the OP is only forwarding 5010 and 5011, then no shit it's not working properly. Also check the network options submenu in-game. You can specify the p...

My first (educated guess) would be vidcard overheating, I've seen it cause all sorts of strange artifacts. Make sure the fans and heatsinks are clean, use compressed air if possible. Try a newer set of drivers (assuming there are newer), or perhaps try some modded drivers (DNA drivers and Omega driv...

My game hangs at the exact same spot as yours - I cannot even run it in the windowed mode. The debug.txt is identical. I have XP 2600+, 1G, 9600XT, so the machine is fast enough. First I thought that it was my soundcard, EMU1820M, which isn't exactly a gaming card. But maybe it's a more general bug...

Does anyone else find it baffling that you're penalized for collateral damage to the enemy, when the purpose of the game is to shoot nuclear missiles at civilian cities? By definition they're one and the same thing... unless we're all missing something here. :?:

If we're raising petty complaints, can I complain how the General area of the Defcon forums seems to have become cluttered with useless posts asking obvious questions if the O.P. was observitive enough to find the answers for himself? I miss the days of pre-launch Defcon. Was nice and quiet and inf...
