I'm hoping the devs eventually patch it to be more akin to most RTS games. Meaning that if the host drops, it doesn't affect everyone else.

So... am I alone in wanting this? A tactical simulator using Defcon-like graphics for street-to-street or open feild warfare?

Something along those lines already exists. See: Brigade Combat Team Commander, TacOps, Armored Task Force.

Not the same as what you're describing, but close.

What kind of developers do you think you are when you make such a serious game, yet forget any sort of blocking, ignoring or vote kicking features? At a guess, independent developers. *ducks* On a more serious note two points. A: yes, an ignore function would be good, but B: the way you expressed y...

Wow. LA really gets plastered in that image. Then again, all this smog has probably made me tough enough to survive nuclear fallout. Bring 'em on!

Wait, no, I remember how that went when the president said it...

gain, such a feature will be abused. There is no way to stop people from abusing it. If it is implemented, people will use it improperly. I'm not at all sure I agree; you don't see people in online FPS games abusing votekicking. I'd mention online RTS games, but i'm not aware of any that allow vote...

Operational Art of War Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord, Barbarossa to Berlin, Afrika Corps (if you play only one wargame in your life, make it CM: AK) Close Combat (well, not so much recently) Since the original poster included things that were most definitely not military strategy games (I'm lookin...

I have never felt rushed to click, and I don't understand this "clickfest" that you describe. Could you please elaborate? Naval combat--carriers--springs to mind immediately. Getting fighters/bombers in the air entails a lot of frantic--even in realtime, as when the shots are flying, time...

As I said, I'm using the demo. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I Had the same issue with both the demo off steam and the introversion site. I'll give launchpad a shot when I get home today.

"Play the Game as Intended"

I must say, I'm rather put out by the knee-jerk reaction on these forums to many requests, which is essentially a combination of "learn to the play the game" and "Making things more user friendly would make the game less fun". My answer to the first point is the same answer I gav...

Well, they blew up all my silos, but hadn't hit my cities yet, so my navy and airbases blew the crap out of my OWN cities; no points for them!

Tried it, no joy. If in fact it isn't finding a file it needs, what is the name (used in the preferences.txt) of the demo level? Maybe setting startup map = [demolevel] would work.

If you're Europe, it's a reaaallly good idea to ally with Asia/USSR/Africa--if for no longer than five seconds. Reason being that their radar will inevitably reveal the position of pretty much all your stuff; if you can ally with them, you get to see where their stuff is. Conversely, if you're not E...

I, too, find that the demo evokes an emotional response in me.

Unfortunately, as it crashes every time I try to run it, the emotion evoked is irritation.

I have, yes (had the exact same problem with the demo--go me). It had no effect whatsoever (both = 0 and = 1 = crash). Any other possibiliites, or do I resign myself to not playing this until I upgrade my computer for Supreme Commander/Combat Mission 2? EDIT: Hmm. Tried the "startupmap = garden...
